Rilke -The panther

   Sat, February 4, 2006 - 12:36 PM
His gaze
from staring through the bars
has grown so weary that it can take in
nothing more.

For him
it is as though there were a thousand bars
and behind the thousand bars
no world.

As he paces in cramped circles
over and over
his powerful strides are like
a ritual dance around a center
where a great wheel stands paralyzed.

At times the curtains of the eye lift
without a sound and a shape enters
slips through the tightened silence of the shoulders
reaches the heart
and dies.

I love this poem. Rilke is one of my favorite poets. Did you take the picture of the moon?

This was the first Rilke translation I ever read. I've been rummaging through my books and re kindling my best inspirations. Yep the moon shot was an experiment.

A very successful one! How did you get the ripple effect, is it moonlight on water?

Thanks for the compliment . Just Atmospheric conditions there was a big storm coming the next day. I played with settings as well, though in the randomness of the moment I couldn’t tell you which one created that shot. I try to take a moon shot every full moon and still learning the camera. Most my shots are just something catching my eye- the nature of the light in that moment.

What kind of camera are you using?

Canon S2.. I did a lot of comparisons and liked this one.
a SLR like the ‘Rebel’ might have better results but is a big leap in price and weight.
www.dpreview.com/ was a great site for making comparisons.
