The shame of our generation

I went to lake Tahoe and did get the relief of being in the trees I needed, but was really saddened at the quantity of trash everywhere. It is beyond me how anyone could come to such a beautiful place and treat it like a toilet. Beer cans, bottles, cartons, socks, hundreds of cigarette butts, pieces of Styrofoam coolers. And bags of trash, food wrappers etc.

In only 10 minutes without even trying my pack was full of trash to take out with so much more still left on the trail.

It's everywhere in California and SO discouraging.

I'm afraid that the only deterent would be legislation and more severe fines for littering...and ENFORCEMENT.

How do you enforce the laws if you can't catch people littering?

The paradox
I have felt the same bewilderment and indignation. I simply don't get the mentality that would go someplace beautiful (presumably because of its beauty) and then leave trash there as if they completely don't appreciate it. It baffles the hell out of me, and leaves me angry at the state of the world.
