A Candle....

It somehow seems a little smaller today, a little colder. Our number were reduced by two yesterday, within a couple of hours of each other. Little Playa, a very young kitten passed away while being cuddled by Puss-in-Boots, and less than two hours later we took our cat Bandit in to the vet to be euthanized. Bandit was 17, and had suffered a stroke or other brain injury just before Recompression, and she was no longer herself. We buried them together in the cat garden where Bandit spent much of her time in the sun, carrying candles to light the way and light our little ceremony. Just before we left, Rick, our youngest, stopped and placed his candle over the grave. In spite of the wind, that candle did not go out, a candle flame in the middle of comeplete darkness, a beacon for spirit and joy. When we checked this morning, the candle had burned right to the very end of the wick, deep in the dirt. Rick's comment was that it burned just like Bandits life had been, bright to the very end....
