camping supply thread

10x10 rain shelters are now $29 at Rite Aid.

Unless you plan on inconveniencing someone else (or you just love standing in the rain) you're going to need one for RR. Make yourself comfortable and buy one. You'll be glad you did.

Camping chairs are $8 a piece at Dicks Sporting Goods.

You'll need one, buy it. Don't depend on someone else to provide one for you. This isn't radical-self-reliance. It's common sense. You do intend to sit down at some point?

Tents are $25 - $30 at Walmart and Target.

Cheaper than the RR ticket!

King sized sleeping bags that can handle 20 degree temps are $25 at Walmart.

Yes, evil Walmart. Don't want to shop there? Fair enough. Still, you can expect to pay only about $50 for a warm sleeping bag that has a multitude of uses and you'll have it forever.

Tent + sleeping bag + shelter + chair = 88 bucks.

All of these things are even cheaper yet if you search craigslist or borrow from someone you know.

If you think camping is too expensive then you aren't taking the time to research the prices.

Camping season is over, now is the time to buy your shiznit.

need an artist's help

Looking for several resourceful artists to help me with this silly project I'd like to do for the Recycled Rainbow event in late September. http://www. recycledrainbow. org (it's like Burning Man, but in Ohio.
)

I've got an idea for RR that requires the help of a visual artist who can work with fabric and paints.

I wanted to create a "black light district." I want to have 5 black-lit canopies, about 10x10 in size... and each of them would be separated by fabric walls, and each canopy would need to be of a different color.

One of them is called: captive audience (should be decorated like a prison) There is an organ on a table facing outside the canopy. Sitting before you are 4 chairs. Three of them have fake people in them. From behind, they look real, but from directly in front of you, you realize they are fake. They are also handcuffed to their chairs. The 4th chair is empty, with a chain and open handcuff attached... waiting for you ;) You can play the organ, it works.

Another is called: Wall of Thoughts (walls get covered with typing paper that people write their thoughts out on) Should light up nicely in blacklight. All it needs is paper and a type-writer and a table. The paper would be colored paper that reacts nicely to black light. Various colors preferred, so when they hang on the walls, they glow from a distance.

Third: Bathtub (walls covered with toys children would play with in the bathtub, ideally the kind that react nicely to blacklight) Perhaps a tub of water in which one could indeed play! That would be the centerpiece, swimming in it are glow in the dark tub toys, of which I have little.

Fourth: fabric labyrinth (streams of neon colored fabric hanging from the ceiling, so much so that the entire 10x10 space is covered in them) It would be like a human car wash.

Fifth: Blacklight Forest: I wanted to paint tree branches and leaves in neon paint and display them in this room somehow

I need HELP!

I have 8 yard long blacklights. With two more, I could have two per room.

A Great Way to Participate -- Volunteer!

It's time to think about your contribution to Recycled Rainbow. No, I'm not talking money here, although donations of money could be helpful too. I'm talking time, creativity, physical activity, sharing your very own unique talents and abilities with the community ... If you aren't already committed to one of our illustrious teams, think about it. If you see something that sparks your interest, you can contact the team lead that's listed or contact me at volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org. Here's a list of the teams:

Greeters

Greeters - Being the first person seen as people arrive, you will be welcoming everyone to our temporary community. Your smiling face and the information you give will introduce all to our energy and to the incredible experience they’re about to encounter. You communicate the principle ideas behind this event, camping locations, rest room locations, convey the fact we are *guests* of the campground, and re-iterate the importance of Leave No Trace.

To volunteer as a greeter contact greeters(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org

Safety

We 're looking for some crazy (or not so crazy) EMTs, ER nurses, doctors etc. who would enjoy participating on our temporary community. We suspect First Aid is going to be the biggest concern. There is always the danger of serious injury whenever fire, fire performance, high wire juggling and other radical self expression exists. While we expect all participants to be radically self-reliant, we know that there may be occurrences that will require professional assistance. We'll need a vehicle in good working order with a full tank of gas to transport people and first aid supplies.

Medics

Medics are responsible for handling all on site medical emergencies. Medics should have medical training- Registered Nurses or EMTs are most desired. Medics need not be in the medical area all the time. You will be required to carry a radio (of course) when on call. During high population/high-energy moments you may be required to man the medical station (located in the pavilion). The pavilion has electricity and a refrigerator, but we don't know if we can use the fridge yet. It also has several picnic tables. We plan to have a truck with a full gas tank parked next to the pavilion if you need to transport someone.

Spotters

Spotters are the eyes and ears of Recycled Rainbow, talking to people, communicating the freedom and ideas of the event, keeping an eye on safety and encouraging discussion and creativity. They act as first responders for E.M.S. Spotters are not security. They handle conflict by attempting to communicate and reach compromises so police don’t have to be called. The Team Lead communicates with other teams to ensure proper and fast response in the event of emergencies.

As a spotter you get to:
Participate!
Get to know the intricacies of a radically free event
Work with fun people who love what they are doing
get to see EVERYTHING that goes on at RR
Get to meet amazing people
Help people stay safe
Help people get the most fun out of the event
Talk on a radio!
Participate!
Spotting Is For You If...
you have a great sense of humor
you have skills in non-confrontational mediation
you love chaos
you love problem solving on your feet
you get a rush out of a challenge
email spotters(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org and VOLUNTEER NOW to be an RR Spotter!

Earth Guardians

LNT – Leave NO Trace!!! These amazing people love
to get all trashy!!! Organic, inorganic, orgasmic. It takes a lot of people hours – before, throughout, and after the event to make sure that nothing gets left behind and virtually no sign that we were ever there remains. Teach everyone about LNT through stories, songs, poems, threats, spankings … whatever means you can come up with to get the point across. We need people to help us ensure that we leave the land as clean as it was when we arrived; to ensure that nobody is damaging the grounds. Can we enjoy ourselves to the fullest and still leave no trace that our community ever existed? You bet we can - with your help! Sir William is leading our Earth Guardians this year!

Fire Safety

There will be fire!!! Large fire, small fire, fire performers. We need people to help us have radical fire expression without harming the land or the community.

Restroom Attendants

This most avant-garde idea in volunteerism was born in 2005 at Burning Man by Recycled Rainbow Camp. The hallmark of every great civilization is the manner in which they handle their biological waste! In an attempt to provide a respectful, pleasant and enjoyable experience in our temporary community, we are seeking one or two people to provide atmosphere and services for the restrooms. Restroom attendants are given the opportunity to create a theme camp in the restrooms themselves, providing lighting, music, inscense and whatever else you would like to provide to promote a pleasant environment demanding respect for the facilities. Providing reminders that "if it didn't come out of your body, don't put it in the potty" and "no moop in the poop" are some examples, but it can go much further! Please notify volunteers(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org to volunteer!

Theme Camp Coordination

Chaos may be fun, but we try to create a community that meets everyone's needs to the best of our ability. The Theme Camp Coordination Team plans the placement of theme camps and art installations. They also communicate with other teams to ensure all theme camp needs are met. TCC deals with registered and unregistered theme camps. Team Lead is Dirt Goddess

DBS

The event’s Hot Construction Crew!!! It takes a bit more than dreams to make this community a reality. It takes some hard work too! The DBS is in charge of building the event. We're looking for some hardy volunteers of all skill levels with imagination who aren't afraid to share their ideas and do some physical labor. DBS Team Lead is Chnick.

getting nervous.....

Okay, Recycled Rainbow is getting VERY close ...

There is so much I wanted to do artistically, and I can't think of how to do it. I want to do about 50 things and can only do 3. Don't have the time or money.

I'm shaking about this.

We need to sell 20 tickets. Well, 19.

I want a black light district, since I have blacklights, and there is a good amount of power present...why not? Three - five canopies with tarp stretched across, and lights mounted on the ceiling beams. Or use trees to hang the tarp... no that's dumb. And what the fuck is there to do in a black light district but look at blacklights? Thinking about that sucks too. I want to do my rave dome again, but not always play rave music (actually I didn't do a whole lot of that last year.) Maybe make that the center of the BL district, and put 2 canopies next to it, side by side. Cover it ALL with tarp. Rain proof, good places to mount lights, more room to walk and dance in. Maybe folding tables and chairs and turn it into a snobby night club. The shape of the dome is so typical, but not when surrounded by canopies. What a FUCKLOAD of work that would be.

And at these things, no one wants to go IN anywhere because they want to see OUT, but they want to see OUT, so see what they can go IN to, so this can't be complete tarp coverage. You've got to see it from the outside, from a distance especially. I want lasers again.

What to do in the daytime with this blacklight district that can only be seen at night?

OMFG, I'm so fucked.

Everything I can think of has been done, nothing is original, but I want to TRY these things because I've never done them... and then maybe originality will flow.

The Unrecycled Rainbow

EVERYONE IN OHIO AND PENNSYLVANIA, PLEASE HELP!

Where is this taking place? Anyone have an idea????

THIS would be, www.recycledrainbow.org

I'm getting tired of campgrounds telling me "no noise after 10 pm!"

This is frustrating and I wish I had closure.

I will not accept "SSSHHHHHHHH" as an option. I would rather cancel. Oh, by the way...

FUCK canceling up the ass with a concrete studded dildo!!!!!!!!!!

We landed on 40 acres last year, and had a quiet zone and a loud zone. It worked out great. People who wanted to sleep at night, they slept ... except those assholes who didn't prepare. (We fired all of them, btw.)

Bottom line: neighbors didn't complain, permanent camping residents got along with us, and the police we're on our side. Land owner got paid 30% of the ticket sales.

How can this not work in places that have 500 acres????

Okay, so we are looking for land on which to hold RR.

I'm not asking anyone to make the phone calls. I'm asking people to help me THINK, and let me make the phone calls, but brainstorm with me, offer suggestions of campgrounds, parks, private land, people you know, people who know other people you know .... you know?

Please help.
