about me
Bon soir, mon cher (ou ma cherie)! Si vous voulez faire ma connaissance, il y a quelques choses que vous devez savoir:
I waitressed for YIV this past summer (this reviving a waitressing past) and hope to do so next year. Try the sharbats at Your Inner Vagabond mext Pennsic; they're delicious.
DISCLAIMER: I came here mainly for the Pennsic and SCA boards, and a lot of what I say below may never arise in a conversation held within the confines of historical recreation. Keep that in mind when reading below. I cannot be held responsible for any misrepresentations, inaccuracies or omissions that may or may not result in cerebral malfunction from reading this. Have a nice day!
_____________________________
I believe in open-minded views and honesty in friendship, and anyone who can tolerate my weird sense of humor and strange voice impersonations is on the A-list in my book. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, so the less passive-aggressive manipuation involved in my life, the better. Beyond that, everything is up for interpretation. ;)
As I am fond of saying, the 'Christian Right' is neither. I've been an atheist, a Pagan and a Christian, all within ten years of each other, and while I settled on the latter, I disassociate myself from 95 percent of Americans who claim that religious distinction. Then again, religion and faith are two very different things, and we have a perfect example of that in our so-called President, who is extremely religious but devoid of any real faith. Anyone who can read an ancient text full of references to compassion, fighting poverty, agape love and forgiveness, then turn around and claim those same passages promote segregation, exclusion, intolerance and hatred, is severely misinformed at best and hypocritically immoral at worst.
I'm an independent leftist who usually votes Democratic--while simultaneously being a non-denominational, progressive Christian. I don't go to church. I feel strongly that Bush has taken our country away from us--or was it steadily creeping away and we simply didn't notice?--and I believe that social conservatives are trying to tear down the wall between church and state when it should be reinforced, not weakened.
I've participated in protests, starting in Boston and travelling to NYC three times and protesting a couple days in PA as well. There are four cardinal sins in my book: apathy/complacency, dishonesty, mediocrity and hypocrisy. In order to believe that I have not stood silent as conservatives have erected this terrible, false idea about the meaning of charity, I found it necessary to voice my opinions, even though I find politics somewhat distasteful. If that means alienating people who are uncomfortable with those of strong convictions, so be it. I try not to judge others, though certain attitudes (see: apathy) occasionally irritate me.
Honesty or arrogance? You decide! Just kidding. Based on the imformation I have to go by from spies, acquaintances with illicit secrets, close confidantes, and brutally honest friends, about a quarter of people who meet me think I'm too stubborn, two-thirds get along with me very well regardless of personal differences, and a small percentage think I'm too nice (wtf. mate?) and don't take me seriously. Almost all of them think I'm bizarre and like to balance small objects on my head.
Hey, I can live with those odds.
ENFJ is way too simple an explanation for someone's personality, but take that as you will. MLK Jr. remains my modern inspiration.
From St. Kitts, right before they stopped selling them. Mmm, rayon....
