Came by tribe and found it was working again. Saw your smile.

We'd been invited to dinner with Leonardo, but neither of us knew the other was coming. Leo had this habit of inviting people to dinner, the strangest people he knew, and getting them drunk, crazy drunk. Then he'd get out those crazy notebooks of his, and sketch all the crazy, wild folk at his dinner table, laughing and crying and carrying on. So we're at this wild dinner party just outside Florence, and Donatello shows up carrying his new statue of David, the cute little guy with the hat, and even though it's bronze, we were passing it around and laughing and telling very dirty jokes which I can't repeat here. Anyway, Nik sat there smiling -- not laughing, not nearly wetting his pants like the rest of us, just smiling, and I thought, "here's a man who can sit in the same room with the greatest artists of the Renaissance and not lose his cool. This is one hoopy frood."

about me
I am an oddball who looks pretty normal. No, my freakishness is not displayed via outlandish haircuts, dye jobs, tattoos, nor piercings. I just react to the world in ways none of my friends can ever predict. I'm a strict vegetarian, sliding into more whole foods (somewhat against my wishes; travel is hard enough already!), and I don't drink, smoke, or take any drugs stronger than chocolate and refined sugar.

I am a geek of many geeky interests: role-playing, computers, singalong, and more.

I am interested in energy work (Reiki and such). Although I don't have much first-hand experience with any unusual phenomena, people who claim to (and who don't know each other) keep saying the same exact things about "my energy", so I want to explore that.

I'm not a great cook, but I enjoy doing so for friends when the rare chance presents itself. I've been trying to cook for myself more.

My Blog

Yeah, halfway through January already, but this is my year-end update. I can summarize 2008, personally, in three words:

Work.

Finland!

Oh my god work.

Okay, so that's not three words, but that was my 2008. I managed a few diversions too: some awesome CouchSurfing guests, the Las Vegas Ren Fair, and the Dickens Fair. Still, way too much work. I can't seem to do a couple things at a time (including sleep!). I'm either completely consumed with some activity or completely shut down.

Hey folks--

I'll be in Las Vegas the weekend of the ren faire! My mom, grandma, and sister (with her twins) will be there too.

Fascinating lecture about cannabis, offering perspectives I'd never heard of before. I still got no plans to break my straight edge, though. :-)

I am stuck at Helsinki airport because my flight got overbooked and they canceled my seat. I've got an alternate itenerary now that gets me in SFO at 10pm instead of 1pm. Joy.

The flight here was smooth, at least, and the trip has been mostly good. Really just the last few days and this flight upset have been the only horrid parts. Notable happenings:

- Visited many cities and towns: Helsinki, Jyväskylä, Savonlinna, Kuopio, Tampere, Pietarsaari, Alahärmä, Turku, Stockholm, Tuusula/Hyryl... read more

When I was a kid, I had to get my mom to drive me an hour to the next town to get Dungeons & Dragons at B. Dalton. I just went to the B. Dalton downtown to get the new edition (amazing they're still around, even if owned by Barnes & Noble now).

I've only done one quick playtest of the new edition. It's not Dungeons & Dragons, really, but it's tons more fun. I'm looking forward to the two campaigns I'll be in (as soon as I'm back from Finland).

Yikes, I'm so not ready for this trip yet.
