I really love you a whole freeking lot, dear banyan. This sidekick is longing for his hero...
September 29, 2007
Oh Banyan,
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways....
Do you have two or three days?

You are a yes to magnificence in the most humble of ways.
You are a yes to brilliance as you dazzle and sparkle your way around this planet with sublime grace.
Simply put = you inspire me.
Being around you, better yet, just knowing you (because, unfortunately I am not always around you) has me want to dig deep into my being and shine the light on all those fantastically amazing things and make them even brighter. Knowing you feels good.
Knowing you feels like home.
I feel safe to stumble around you, to be messy and imperfect - to say stupid things. You are a celebration of living in truth - and so its easy for me to bring both the mess and the perfection, the boring and the exciting, the inarticulate and the poetic, the crass and the kind to the table.
You are an invitation to it all.
Thank you.
This, my friend, is quite rare in such a genuine way as you embody.
I love to laugh with you, and I love to feel deeply with you.
I appreciate that you like to climb trees just because it feels good.
Dancing with you is creation.
Yes?
You are an evolver of the highest degree, a fire artist and light dancer. Thank you for your committment to what it means to be truly... ALIVE.
Warrior and Lover
Dancer and Guardian of silent spaces
Committed and Silly
Young and Old
Wise and wise
Inspired and inspiring
yes... so many things.
I'm missin' you and loving you big.
I am honored to call you both brother and friend.

just.being.
Tis a great man who can see someones fire when they aren't even looking. I've encountered this human just Being and sit with an intriguing eye at the marvel of life that someone exudes or something exhibits. He is beautiful because he can see how you be.you.to.full.
I've engaged with this human just saying those words that with the depth of a deep-end truth it invites your own truths to be told and then tell a story of a thousand childrens fable that make you walk away smiling with your inner-childs-super-human-cape secure and ready to fly.
I've experienced how he nurtures light that it just starts to follow him around...he'll harvest playfully from the trees, he'll find you if you're glowing through the crowd, and he'll unfold a web of pattern that unlocks the most intertwined of fires, those who are of his experience are those of the most bright and if you find yourself just being in his presence all I have to say is keep shining.
Tis a bright light tis a bright light. Thanks for keeping that fire alive bryan.

What can say about one of the most inspiring beings I have ever met. He has to be the wisest wrestler I have come across, that's right he likes to wrestle boys and he is great at it , of course. I am honored and grateful to have become such close friends with bryan. I have watched him change and grow into the magical creature that he is today. He has had an unmeasurable affect on my life as well, in ways he will never understand, well maybe someday. Thanks for all that you have given me.

In one word .... inspiration.

INSPIRATION!

Bryan has truly changed my life - on such a profound level I can't even begin to communicate. Because of him I was inspired to develop a relationship with fire, and learned to express myself in new ways that brought out things inside of me i hadn't yet acknowledged.....Bryan gave to me certain insights which convince me to dance.

With him I have built a family that transcends all the layers I have found...a family of which I could not be more proud.

I am truly honored to know this man, to hold his mutual faith, to be his brother, and to perform by his side.

i have not only had the pleasure of spinning fire next to this piece of brilliance, but the opportunity to nourish a part of his being.

i can feel his words through his eyes and taste stare with my energy.

it is an honor, handsome,
to be the hooper for your
fire finale.
September 15, 2004

a boy who matches my passion for traveling, love, laughter and life. he's taught me how to be myself, smile all the time, and to live life to the fullest each and every moment.
his passion for fire spinning and his ability motivates any person, including little 5 year old nicaraguan boys to "want to be like bryan".
he is the truest and closest person to my heart and soul.

i know we will wander the waters of the earth, climb the trees to be closer to the stars and watch condors fly again my friend.

With That Moon Language

Admit something:

Everyone you see, you say to them,
"Love me."

Of course you do not do this out loud;
Otherwise,
Someone would call the cops.

Still though, think about this,
This great pull in us
To connect.

Why not become the one
Who lives with a full moon in each eye
That is always saying,

With that sweet moon language,

What every other eye in this world
Is dying to
Hear.

"The Vintage Man," by Hafiz

The
Difference
Between a good artist
And a great one

Is:

The novice
Will often lay down his tool
Or brush

Then pick up an invisible club
On the mind's table

And helplessly smash the easels and
Jade.

Whereas the vintage man
No longer hurts himself or anyone

And keeps on
Sculpting
Light.

the practice

"Tantrics, however, are not looking for liberation from the world but enlightenment in the world. In a shaktadvaita classic called the Tripura Rahasya, a prince named Hemachuda achieved the state of kaivalya, establishment of the Self in the Self, the goal of classical yoga. He sat in deep meditative absorption day after day, not wanting to be disturbed. Finally his wife, and advanced tantric adept, interrupted his sadhana teasing, “My darling, you are as far from enlightenment as a reflectio... read more

The moon is most happy
When it is full.

And the sun always looks
Like a perfectly minted gold coin

That was just Polished
And placed in flight
By God's playful Kiss.

And so many varieties of fruit
Hang plump and round

From branches that seem like a Sculptor's hands.

I see the beautiful curve of a pregnant belly
Shaped by a soul within,

And the Earth itself,
And the planets and the Spheres--

I have gotten the hint:

There is something about circles

They say sugar can numb the lasting after-effects of a medicine ceremony, but if there's anything I learned last night, it's that NOW is the time to eat a chocolate-covered strawberry. It's that there are no wrong decisions, that lying down, sitting up, peeing, shitting, puking, and singing, are all the same.

Exactly the same. Every single movement, or lack of movement, is a dance with God. Sometimes an awkward, seventh grade, spend-two-hours-trying-to-build-up-the-nerve-to-ask-her kin... read more

Handstands against the wall in the Prudential Hotel, Kowloon side of Hong Kong. Left hand is still weak, and I can't help but fear the embarrassment of having only made slight progress since I last saw my teacher on Maui.

An eleven year old boy demonstrated one of the most gorgeous Tai Chi forms I've ever seen this morning. Completely focused, moving with grace through his postures, he hardly noticed even the holster-wearing dreadlocked white guy in the crowd.

"How long I play Tai... read more

On being an artist in life

"There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other mediium and is lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open."
- Martha Graham
