LUMIA

Chelsei and I spent the day at LACMA today. Wandering and wandering, absorbing art and inspiration, and getting joyfully sore feet. We split up and followed our own rhythms around the museum for a while. When we finally reunited Chelsei said, "Did you see the lights?!" I thought she was speaking abstractly so was about to say yes, then realized that I had no idea what she was talking about but couldn't wait for her to show me. She led me into a wing that I had mysteriously passed by (kind of a weird set up, that LACMA) and introduced me to the most incredible thing her and I had seen in a long time. A man named Thomas Wilfred created something called the Lumia which projects light in such a way to convey the biggest most beautiful ideas of them all... the universe, creation, destruction, birth, death, life, love... We sat together for a long time. Both of us were brought to tears at different points, it was that moving.

I did some research to see if I could find any good recordings of the Lumia to share with you but didn't come up with much. It seems like this visionary artist did not get nearly enough attention for this epic creation. Here's the best website that I found:
www.lumia-wilfred.org/
I highly recommend that you go to the museum to witness this. It's pretty hard to put this kind of beauty into words.

I'm so glad I shared this with you, Chelsei!!!
