Blah, Blah, Blog of a Fairy
Website Updates
I guess I finally found the time to update, or at least partially update my website. The most dramatic change is the color scheme. I was finally able to add a transparency to the background of my Bubble Fairy Logo with the new animated bubbles. I think this look, much better portrays the look and feel I want for my site.I added a guestbook, and blog. The blog on my site, will now be my main blog as I am planning to blog more. Yea, right, we'll see. ;P. Plus Tribe gives me the opportunity to stream my webpage blog to my profile page. Or it can be viewed at http://bubble_fairy.bravejournal.com/
I'm looking forward to another year of playing the fairy. I am so please with the reception I have received from those in the faire community. People have seen me do bubble in the street for years, but I had old timers come up to me and thank me for creating this character. My favorite comment was from a couple who told me, "You have helped to bring the magic back to Faire." Bless you!!
Until we meet again,
Blessings & Bubbles,
Lenie
The Bubble Fairy
Kill the buggies!!
It's been a while since I've posted. So I thought it was about time I did so.Well I left Winchester Mystery House on Friday the 13th. The day before, I had an interview with the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Which I got. So I left WMH on Friday and started with CDFA on Monday. It's been a great two weeks! I've learned a lot, and if your wondering what I'm doing... I am trapping insects. Particularly the Light Brown Apple Moth.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligh...apple_moth
Remember the Medfly? Well this is the newest pest for California, it is now an infestation and they are working very hard to get it under control. This little guy will eat just about everything. Fruit, vegitables, foliage, etc. It was introduced from Austrailia and is not a natve to the US. Since it comes from a hostile invironment, it finds California to be a garden of eden.
My regular days are Mon - Thurs 10 hrs a day. But they have offered overtime so my first week I worked 70+ hours. Yesterday was my 11th day in a row.
So I'm taking this weekend off, starting today. I think I've earned a little bit of a break.
So today we go to Casa and start setting up Camp Smiley. If anyone is going out there this weekend, just come by and say Hi!!
Not sure if it will be in the same place as last year. Still deciding on where to be.
Looking forward to Northern this year. Don't know how involved I will be, but looking forward to seeing everyone.
Love you all, hope to see you soon!!
Whoo Hoo I got a job!!
Okay, so some of you already know, but for the rest of you...I got a job a the Winchester Mystery House as a tour guide.
I am soooo excited!! I have been in love with the Winchester house since I was a kid. Growing up in San Jose, I remember driving by it as a kid and pressing my face against the window of the car as we would drive by it. My Mom would always point it out to me and say, " See there it is! She thought that if she didn't stop building she would never die."
It was ironic that while waiting in the carriage house today for the tour to start with the other two trainees, and each of us was thinking back to the last time we went on the tour. Each one of us remembered that we were each 13 years old when we were last here. Of course Sarah Winchester's favorite number was 13. WOW!!
I also used to work in a store that was accross the street forom the house about 20 years ago. It was rumored that that house was the garderners house, don't know how accurate that was, but I do know that some stange things used to happen in that house. I also had an encounter one night while sitting on the porch looking accross the steet at the W house that I saw a green light going from window to window on the second floor. The person who was with me saw the same thing. This was at about 12:15 a.m.
I have been studying everything I can find on the web and even rented a video from Netflix to try and learn as much as I can for last week. I love history and consider myself a San Jose historian.
I may have to give up some Renfaire weekends, but I think it will be worth it. I don't know how long I will be there, but I do know that I can check off one of those life goals. {work at the Winchester Myster House} **Check**
Now I just have to get my brain around this huge manual that they gave me to study.
Love ya all!
Hope to see you at Golden Gate. I plan to be doing the Bubble Fairy there, So if you see me, stop by and say Hi!!
Cheers!
New mask for Angus
Here is a shot of the new mask I am making for Angus. I made it much like mine but he wanted it more "trashed" so I took the cheescloth dreds off of his old mask and added it to the new one. I also wash painted it to look old and funky. I know it dosn't show in the picture very well but it looks like it is mildwed all over face of the mask now. I'm well pleased with the effect. Now I just have to make a shroud for the head covering and line it with leather and it's ready to Danse!
Enjoy!!
Just Stuff
So this weekend was quite productive. I fianally got all of Kurts stuff cleaned up and made room for his dishes and things in the kitchen.I'm trying to help him feel more at home here. He has been so good at trying not to invade my space while moving in. I have to say he is the best room mate I have ever had!!
Now I just have to really look at what I have and get rid of MORE stuff. I'll say that I am a testamony for the law of the universe that is at work regarding giving. It seems the more I give away the more I get. I just don't understand where it all comes from. I have been getting rid of stuff since last February when I decided to clean up after John went away and I'm still getting rid of stuff. Yikes!! Makes me wanna be a minimalist.
So after taking a look at my finances, I can say that I will more than likely be going to Angels Camp next weekend. So we are praying for no snow. Cold I can deal with, snow was just no fun last year. Besides the fact that I got sick, but that's another story in it's self. Even with snow boots, wet skirts and cloaks are just no fun when it's that cold. I think it took me a full week to thaw out.
So get ready for a great time!!
The Great Garage Fire of 07'
Okay, okay, I'll tell you about the fire...While Smiley was here, we were smoking in the garage and I emptied the ashtray into the garbage can. I didn't think it had anything lit in it so no big deal right?? Wrong!
We went back inside and were watching a movie and baking a pie. When we went into the kitchen to check on the pie we smelled burned plastic and saw smoke coming out of the top of the door to the garage.
Smiley touched the door and it was warm. So I ran into the back yard and got the hose and told him to hit the garage door opener. We, or actually he hosed it down and the smoke was so thick that when he came out he looked like Al Jolsen.
After the smoke cleared we could see that the garbage can which was plastic, had melted all the way down to the floor. I lost almost my whole CD collection and some of my pictures. They all got wet but only a few burned and a few more were scorched. So I had to lay them out all over the house so they could dry.
My drafting table is destroyed, along with some other non-importanto stuff.
So we had to move EVERYTHING out of the garage, which if you have ever seen my garage you will know it was no small task, and my father in-law, who is my landlord, had the gargage painted.
Moving everything back in is taking longer because EVERYTHING has to be washed before it can go back in, because it's covered in suit.
So now Smiley has given me a new nickname of "Torch". Especially since I told him this is not the first fire I ever started.
I concider myself lucky for several reasons:
1. If we had waited just a few minutes longer the wall would have caught fire.
2. That Smiley was here to help me, not only with the fire, but the clean up.
3. I didn't lose more than I did.
We had just finished painting my bedroom a few days before and got all the bedding and everything back in order when this happend. So It could have been a lot worse!!
Thank God!!
So now you know. :)
Hugs and Bubbles!!!
Getting through the winter
So here I am, missing Smiley. He's gone off to So. faire, and it is so cold here I need electric underwear.Several people have asked me to go to Calaveres, but I don't know how things will go financially between now and then. At this point I can difinitivly say, "No, I'm not going." Plus it's cold enough here, why do I need to go play in the snow again? Well that;s just my thoughts at this point, We'll see how it goes.
I'm still looking for another job. I like my job well enough, I just don't seem to make enough money. I'm used to making much more than what I am limited to there. I guess the job I'm most qualified for would be Admin Assist.
Still cleaning up after the fire. What a mess!! I really didn't lose that much, I just have to clean every bloody thing that was in the garage, because everything is covered in suit.
I'm working on it a little at a time, plus I'm still trying to get the inside of my house straightend out after painting my bedroom. The canopy bed looks great against the purple walls. But I have to put books and such away still.
Boring stuff, welcome to my life! This is my catch up page for all of you who keep asking me, "How have you been?"
Well now ya know!
Cheers!
