Behind Blue Eyes

Re: Are you a FaceBook addict? (in "Stupid" (but Fun) Questions) yup, I am an addict, but I haven't even gotten around to playing the games. I just chat. I don't think I am any more hooked than I used to be here before all of the crashes and "Horrible Exception."

Re: Is Bob retarded? (in "Stupid" (but Fun) Questions) in that thread where we were all sharing expressions and recollections from childhood I was going to say "MR!" but I wasn't sure if people even knew what that meant anymore.

the human guest on the muppet show? the 8th dwarf? the 119th element? a human fixie and accidental feminist

as zen guru Alan Watts once said, "defining oneself is like biting one's own teeth." Lookin' for someone else to bite me I guess.

dare I eat a brain?

There’s this young, cool, butch thang at the club. She is my hero. Only 26 and already swam the width of Tahoe. When there’s something going on and I’m scratching my head in wonder as to how I can help, she is already bringing a motor out for the zodiac, she’s mopping the bathroom floor, she is being a stellar example of what I dig about the South End Club.

But so much more importantly than all that, she is a fashion icon.

When I first moved to SF, my signature was to kick the butts o... read more

It’s true. I am no longer here and now. Not tribe, not SF, not 2009. I am in 1989 Santa Cruz, 1979 North Andover, there wasn’t really anything going on here and now anyway.

I thought I was just going to log on to Facebook because my brother and cousin were sharing their kids’ pictures that way. I really just went there for the family album. I tripped into so much more. The college friends that my cousin and I shared that have dispersed throughout California and Italy. The college/post-coll... read more

I had been curious about the Hyde Street Pier Sea Chanteys since last February when I picked up a flyer at the SF Ocean Film Festival. Who goes to them? Tourists? Geeks? People in costumes, drag? I was recently strolling through the streets with a woman who mentioned that she is a “City Guide”; she seemed like someone who would know. She didn’t, but she said a woman in her building goes to the sea chanteys fairly regularly and that she is a “lotus girl,” which I took to be some kind of flame-... read more

(Accentuating the Positive in a Really Big Way)
I have long resisted the urge to write on and on about kids and pets and it has been pretty easy since I don’t have any. However, the resistance ends today. I am going to tell you a little story about one of my two nephews who has graced my life with his presence.

“Tofer,” not his real name, is about 3 ½ now. I went out for pizza with the family a little over a month ago. I got up to go to the bathroom, strolled across the restaurant, and as... read more
