My oldest brother, Gerald, passed away on Saturday of chronic heart desease at the age of 71 (I am 2nd youngest of 8 siblings). I had a final heart-to-heart conversation with him some days before he died, which has helped with dealing with his passing. When he was a teenager, we all thought he looked a lot like Elvis (at the time). The picture is of my brother in approximately 1955 paired with the young Elvis, for comparison.

I'll miss you Gerry O'... Allan
A client asked me to do a graphite pencil portrait of his wife, their present dog, and including a previously deceased dog as well. He provided me with 8 or 10 digital pix of his wife and the dogs and I sent him various compositional ideas until we both settled on her with the present sheepdog (I think it is) in a favourite pose with her and having the deceased greyhound (I think IT is) as if in a photo on a wall in the background (I was not trying for a realistic room scene, just to have the other dog somehow included). This is the final drawing. Graphite pencil on paper, 13.5 inches x 11.5 inches.

I first saw this view in June of 1955. My parents had just purchased and moved our family into an abandoned one-room school house in the Maxwell Settlement, near Bancroft, Ontario as a home for me and my 3 sisters and 4 brothers. This is the scene from directly in front of the building, across a country road. It has changed very little since then. I am now the caretaker of the schoolhouse (it's a family retreat now) and will eventually inherit it from my mother. This is the 7th in my series of oil on canvas paintings titled 'My Landscapes'.
Just finished, the next one in my 'My Landscapes' series of oil on canvas paintings. 24" x 36".

[From DailyOM web site] "The journey of water as it flows upon the earth can be a mirror of our own paths through life. Water begins its residence on Earth as it falls from the sky or melts from ice and cascades down a mountain into a tributary or stream. In the same way, we come into the world and begin our lives on Earth. Like a river that flows within the confines of its banks, we are born with certain defining characteristics that govern our identity. We are born in a particular time and place, into a specific family, and with certain gifts and challenges. Within these parameters, we move through life, encountering many twists, turns, and obstacles along the way—just as a river flows. Water is a great teacher that shows us how to move through the world with grace, ease, determination, and humility. When a river breaks at a waterfall, it gains energy and moves on. As we encounter our own waterfalls, we may fall hard, but we always keep going. Water can inspire us not to become rigid with fear or hold fast to what is familiar. Water is brave and does not waste time clinging to its past but flows onward without looking back. At the same time, when there is a hole to be filled, water does not flee from it, fearful of the dark; instead, it humbly and bravely fills the empty space. In the same way, we can face the dark moments of our life rather than running away from them. Eventually, a river will empty into the sea. Water does not hold back from joining with a larger body, nor does it fear a loss of identity or control. It gracefully and humbly tumbles into the vastness by contributing its energy and merging without resistance. Each time we move beyond our individual egos to become part of something bigger, we can try our best to follow the lead of the river." Picture is a web find.

Hi Lorenzo:
Toy Camera Tribe member Rick Walker kindly purchased one for me in California and sent it to me. It's the Aiptek VGA+ -- not on your list. Rick paid $12 for it back about 18 months ago. It's delightfully low end. The newer ones appe... read more discussion post on Wed, May 14, 2008 - 8:10 AM

about me
I'm a painter, photographer, writer and transpersonal psychotherapist. I show my paintings, drawings and photography professionally and have self-published 2 books of poems and photography and a children's book about meditation. I have been a practicing Buddhist for the last 10 years. I am twice divorced and the father of 3 children. Since I was shut out of shared parenting of my children by both ex-spouses, I have devoted much time to the issue of Fathers' rights in family law.
