GET REAL!!! (cover your ears...this is a doozy of a "squirrel rant!")
Thu, January 10, 2008 - 4:06 PMMY opinion on all this shit???
Waaaaaah! Waaaaah! Waaaaaah! Five friggin' dollars??? Are you serious??? Someone crying about FIVE DOLLARS??? OK...time for Me to drop a big shitbomb on that...
What is F-I-V-E DOLLARS?? It's:
(a) less than the cost of 2 gallons of gasoline at any gas station in the Bay Area
(b) less than a round-trip BART ticket from SF to the East Bay
(c) less than the average hamburger value meal at most fast-food restaurants (unless you're ordering from Dollar menus)
(d) less than the cost of buying a large box of condoms
(e) less than the cost of buying a grande latte & a baked good at Starbucks
(f) about the cost of bridge toll into SF
(g) about the cost of a pack of cigarettes
...and so on & so on &...GIMME A FUCKIN' BREAK!!! I'm not clairvoyant, but here's My vision of this: the odds are v-e-r-y high that not only do the uber-whiners in mention hardly ever came out to SF Citadel in the first place BEFORE the $5 dollar increase, hereby not giving them much of the proverbial pot to piss in about it anyway, but they probably:
(a) don't volunteer (see definition for "dumbass!"),
(b) think Phil & August are doing this as a concerted "get-richer than they're already rich" ploy (see definition for "dumber than dumbass!"), (c) just like to find shit to stir whenever it comes down to SF Citadel behind the protection of their computers & n-e-v-e-r face-to-face (see definitions for "reasons to have a lobotomy!")
(d) have probably never been to any other BDSM dungeons, where the average cost of admission is $10-$25 more than SF Citadel's new rates...I've been to dungeons across the US, Canada & Europe, where the average price to even smell the sweat inside the damn door is around $45-$60....EVERY FUCKIN' ORDINARY OPEN PLAY PARTY NIGHT!!!
...& the worst offense, (e) they're probably b-e-y-o-n-d financially comfortable, & $5 dollars doesn't mean shit to them, but it's just all about the principle, you know!
Everything I named has increased at one time or another, some more than others recently, but you know what? We still do it because it's a part of our lives. Is SF Citadel a part of our lifes? Damn right it is! It is a COMMUNITY dungeon, & WE ARE THE DAMN COMMUNITY!! If you just don't like the increase, either (a) start contacting the Volunteer Coordinator & start Volunteering for just ONE HOUR A PARTY so you can play for FREE, or (b) build your own damn dungeon, & find out for yourself just how much time, effort & money it takes...all 3 of which, Phil & August unselfishly sacrifice of themselves for each & every one of us....even the ones who don't really deserve it!
I feel better just having the oppourtunity to get it off My chest!
STOP BITING THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU, PEOPLE!!! JUST LEAVE....PLEASE!!....JUST L-E-A-V-E!!!

Yup, all good things must come to an end. $20 is so way cheap. Try $50
I went to a membership dungeon a few years ago in DC www.the-crucible.com/membership.htm. The entry cost with a paid member ship card is $25.00, So this is Not unreasonable.
Their(Crucible) Annual Membership cards are in the following ranges: $50 - Black Rate (Yearly rate) $100 - Blue Family Rate (3 people yearly rate) $1000 - Red Family Rate (3 people yearly rate) Given what we get for our bang, we are getting more than our money's worth. People have to run a business go cover the rent, utilities, permits, insurance and basic upkeep. It is not cheap, especially in San Francisco where rents are at an all time high. For those who are complaining: Volunteer to earn your keep, sponsor a fund raiser for the SF Citadel and support them in lieu of complaining. Be more thankful for the space and be proactive. Just finding the current space was hard as heck. I remember all of that. It was not an easy thing to pull off. |

One other thing to keep in mind. We make no money on the booze we don't sell. How many South of Market places charge a cover charge and then sell drinks or food. We give food away as a courtesy. We give water away and absorb that cost. Just to remind people. One gets a lot at the Citadel for your $25.00.

They can always volunteer or play at home. Most dungeons fail due to lack of cash. As the saying goes you have to pay to play.

Thank you August and Phil for keeping the fires burning at the Citadel!
You have both unselfishly given so much to this community. I know most of my bills have increased over the last 4 years . It makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you again ! I love you both- Trixxi |

The Wet Spot in Seattle
Not only do you HAVE to be a member to go to events but you also HAVE to go an "orientation" first. I do have to say though that they are more then just a dungeon, they are a non-profit sex edu/culture org. Citadel is becoming a little more like them and it's a good thing.
Basic Membership 1. Basic members may attend all of our events by paying the normal attendance fees (typically, $15 to $20). Basic members may bring local guests up to 12 times a year and out of town guests at anytime and they have no other privileges. A basic membership costs $35 per year. Metal Membership Metal members contribute to the Wet Spot on a monthly basis, so they may attend all of our regular night events at no additional charge and they receive a reduction in costs for our special events (like New Years and other Special Events). There are two metal membership levels: 1. Gold Membership Gold memberships have a $50 one-time setup fee and cost $75 monthly. The first month's charge will include both the monthly fee and the one-time setup fee, for a total of $125 in the first month. Please note: there is a 10% discount and no setup fee if you choose to pay a year's gold membership in full, so that only costs $810. 2. Platinum Membership Platinum memberships have a $50 one-time setup fee and cost $150 monthly. The first month's charge will include both the monthly fee and the one-time setup fee, for a total of $200 in the first month. Please note: there is a 10% discount and no setup fee if you choose to pay a year's platinum membership in full, so it only costs $1,620. |
