My snakedancing video with band Crimson Ivy: vids.myspace.com/index.cfm
When I perform, I hope to bring the audience peace, harmony, joy, and a deep connection with the universe. Currently studying ATS, Samba, Bhangra and T'ai Chi. Under the name Irulan, I perform American Tribal Style improvisational group dance and solo fusion dance around the SF Bay Area, sometimes with an unlikely partner, my cornsnake Grayscale. I am currently performing fusion dance with industrial goth band Crimson Ivy www.crimsonivy.net. Chen style T'ai Chi 1st & 2nd roads and Yang style sword are my new favorite passions. I study under the direction of Master Li. The practice has opened my life to a universe of possibilities and amazing energy. I love the sisterhood of ATS dance, its nature-inspired costume elements, and its influences from India, the Middle East, and North Africa. My love of costuming continues to show in my overflowing closet and jewelry boxes with many years of collecting at festivals. I still enjoy costuming others and outfit my fellow dancers until they look "just right." I study ATS dance under Kathy Stahlman of San Jose Tribal Dance www.sanjosetribaldance.com/Index.html in the tradition of FatChance Belly Dance, an improvisational group dance form created in San Francisco by Carolena Nericcio in 1987 www.fcbd.com/. In 2006-2007, I co-directed and performed with Masande Dance Theatre in our tribal fusion debut of "Undines," the water spirits, adapted from the book by de la Motte Fouqué en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undi...ovella%29. Before studying ATS dance, I performed cabaret bellydance for 6 years under the name Magali with award-winning duet Raks Dynamo (1st Place Duet People's Choice Awards 2005), troupe Raks Jenna (1st runner-up troupe Bellydancer of the Year 2003), and professional troupe Raks Bahira. This is where I gained my dance training, including incorporating props: sword, glass, and candle balancing; double veils, fans, skirtwork, and finger cymbals. I continue my exploration of ethnic music, dance, and cultures such as Rom dance strongdancer.com/biography.html , Rom culture www.voiceofroma.com/ , Bhangra dance www.dholrhythms.com/home , and Total Rhythm workout www.totalrhythm.com/ at Kosmos Camp www.kosmoscamp.com/ and Tribal Fest. Additionally, I dabble in African (djembe) drumming with a Buddhist world peace activity group www.sgi-usa.org. I previously studied African drumming with Zorina Wolf of Village Heartbeat in Palo Alto in 2001 www.villageheartbeat.com/ . I also learned Taketina, a polyrhythmic musical experience from her www.villageheartbeat.com/about...a.html .

Spontaneous zaghareets erupted at work today outside my samba class. Our class responded with our own round of ululations. Awesome! =D

I was very impressed with this workout video. It is very complete in that it focuses on so many parts of the body, including breathing. Every move is broken down into digestible parts and done from slower to faster speeds or "gears." It's nice that each member had a chance to lead movements. The Goth/Industrial music is very fun and not overpowering. These ladies know their stuff and it shows. I have studied various forms of bellydance for 9 years and would recommend this workout to pros...
