Ya we are all just a ...
Sea of spiraling dust anyway, in a vacuum of illusion so ... it doesn't much matter any way does it. People try to live up to a model that never really existed... in this reality lol ;'p

Dreams are always easer to grasp with our minds so of coarse we get caught up in chasing the "Dream"... Where does the dream begin and the world end??? Guess we will find out soon enuf ;'p

great ad.

i know i'm not alone in feeling completely alienated by the strange barbie fetishism in so much of the "beauty industry." i'm far from being a purist who thinks everyone should wear potato sacks. playa fashion is awesome and fun and i'm far from being incapable of being moved / influenced by physical attractiveness, but so much of the plasticity that passes for beauty runs counter to my aesthetic opinions of beauty. humor, love, compassion... all of those qualities shine through in truly beautiful people all of the time. nature has insujavascript:document.addComment.submit()red that i'll continue to want to partner up with people. too much of the rest is manipulation of individual insecurity to keep the wheels of the vanity industry turning. and i know to one level or another, we're all prone to its influence. i certainly am not without body image fears.

thanks for blogging this lorin!

whoa... what's that strange non-html crap that snuck into my comment? tribe's code sure is clunky sometimes.

ha ha ha!
That parody was awesome....

Funny how a bar of dove soap doesn't just have to get you clean anymore, but rather also has to give you a make-over, a hairdo, and a facelift, as well...

perfect physical beauty . . an electronic fairy tale that subtly shapes the lives of so many . .
I'll be interested to see what the campaign itself is for.

i dono....
Beau"ty (?), n.; pl. Beauties (#). [OE. beaute, beute, OF. beaut'e, biaut'e, Pr. beltat, F. beaut'e, fr. an assumed LL. bellitas, from L. bellus pretty. See Beau.]

1.

An assemblage or graces or properties pleasing to the eye, the ear, the intellect, the aesthetic faculty, or the moral sense.

Beauty consists of a certain composition of color and figure, causing delight in the beholder. Locke.
The production of beauty by a multiplicity of symmetrical parts uniting in a consistent whole. Wordsworth.
The old definition of beauty, in the Roman school, was, "multitude in unity;" and there is no doubt that such is the principle of beauty. Coleridge.

i like this definition though....

unfortunately, the damage is already done....
Lucky us!

Our generation grew up w/ the invention of the "SUPERMODEL". It's already been ingrained, hardwired into who we are... when you're a fish in water, it surrounds you- you really don't know you're IN water- or anything else...

it's totally fucked up... it's not bad enough that the women's image of themselves is severely skewed- & almost unattainable, and certainly not sustainable- but so is men's expectation of beauty- regaurdless of who you are... I don't think anyone has gone unphased.

To make it worse- there are plenty of women who "play the game" and use sex as a weapon. arghg.

WHATEVER...
It sucks.
