simple as it sounds, "good people" is a very broad and important honorific.

"good people" will check in with your idiot teenage son while you're away, and ask after your sick gramma, and bring you the extra peaches from their tree, and make you plant your ass in a chair and drink a glass of tea 'cause what you're fretting over isn't going to get any better until you settle your hash a little. good people look out. they're better'n anything when you need something.
