Chachachacha…changes

This was quite the week for me. I spent a day in San Francisco, started Unmata intro tribal class, had 3 interviews, and landed a job starting tomorrow. Wow, even as I type this I can’t believe all of this has happened in a week!

I’ll start with the job stuff since that’s what I’m most excited about right now. I went to a job fair with a software company last Thursday looking for a job as a software tester. I interviewed with a few people but didn’t think it went that well. I didn’t think I’d hear back from them but I got a call on Monday asking if I’d come in for another interview Tuesday, I already had an interview scheduled for Tuesday so we scheduled the second interview for Wednesday. The interview Tuesday went well and they said they’d call me back next week for another interview. So I wasn’t nervous about the interview Wednesday. It went really well and they called me back that afternoon to make me an offer. I told them I was looking at another company also and I’d have to think about it and they actually asked me how much it would take for me to accept their offer and start tomorrow. Well I named my price and they met it and I start today. I’m so excited to get back into a technical field!!!

The trip to San Francisco this weekend was great. My future sister-in-law has an uncle that works for the Port of San Fran and he invited us down to see a ship they had in port. The tour of the ship was so neat and then he took us to brunch and decided to give us a tour of the city. I’ve had tours of the city before but this one was by far the best. He had so much knowledge about the history and buildings and took us to the best views of the city I’ve ever seen. On the way back home we had dinner with my brother and his girlfriend at a super yummy pizza joint in Concord where they live. I had such a great day sightseeing and hanging out with family. Can’t wait to do it again. Chinatown is on the agenda for next time.

And now to what you all have been waiting for…Unmata classes. I thought they would be no big deal since I’d been taking the tribal fusion classes for a year. Boy was I wrong! They were completely different and tough!!! We started out learning taxeems and snake arms. The snake arms are completely different, they have low, mid and high with very little movement. We then learned how to que and do 1/4 turns and 1/8 turns with them. We formed improve lines and all took turns trying to lead and follow. I felt like a total newbie trying this. You’re supposed to change moves only on certain beat counts and I had the hardest time getting the count right and doing it at the right time. We then learned the Egyptian. A little different then what I learned but then we added new ques and I was almost completely lost. I couldn’t get this on the right beat at all. I’m amazed at how hard it all was but Shelly did a great job breaking it all down and I’m looking forward to the next class with Cassy. I’m going to learn a lot from them if I survive

I Did It-Yatta!

I’m so happy to have completed our class fourth of july performance! It was a lot of work for a 3 minute performance but it was worth it. Everyone danced wonderfully and we totally rocked the commons. I’m sad that I won’t get another chance to perform with my class before I leave at the end of August but I’m so grateful to have been a part of such a beautiful, dynamic, fun group of women. I never would have thought I had the courage to dance onstage but you ladies have helped me find it. Thank you all!

Now on to my next challenge-house hunting in California-YIKES!

Knock, Knock

I just had a rather embarrasing experience, I came home from work and decided to practice for the 4th of July performance. I was in full costume, makeup, false eyelashes, the whole works, "I want to see you bellydance" blasting away from my Ipod speakers when I hear a knock at the door. I figure hubby has forgotten his keys and need to come in.
I open the door to find the maintenance man, I forgot hubby called him this morning about our leaking refrigerator. So I let him in toss aside my coin belt, turn off the Ipod and lead him to the fridge. I then rush upstairs to change and take off my eyelashes.
To make matters worse he starts calling for me from the bottom of the stairs and when I get down there he says "I think it's the water jug on top of the fridge that's leaking". I forgot we had a full 2 gallon water jug sitting up there since our last camping trip. Of course, he's found the culprit not a leaky fridge but a leaky water jug.
Glad he could come over and tell me that. He probably thinks I'm some crazy lonely lady who dresses up and calls mainenance guys over for companionship. :)

How do you make friends?

I’ve always had a hard time with this, I think it’s because I’m very introverted so I come off as “stuck on myself” or shy. That’s probably why I suck at small talk which is what a lot of friendships start out with. I think part of it is the fact that I come from a family of 6. I didn’t have to work to make a lot of friends in school because when I came home I had my family to spend time with then I met Jeremy and I focused most of my attention on him.

This is on my mind so much now because we have this move coming up. The closer it gets, the more nervous I get. Every time we move it seems to take me 2 years to find a group of people I fit in and have fun with. Then I find my niche and it’s time to move again.

I’m fortunate to have more good friends now than I have at any other time in my life and this may not even be a problem in Sacramento since I have friends and lots of family there already unlike anyplace else we’ve moved. But I want to make it easier this time if I can, so I’d like to hear how other people make friends or find a group of people they fit in with.

To change the subject, hubby & I just got back from seeing Spider Man. It was fun just to go out to a movie together, we don’t do that very often anymore since movie prices are so high. Later we’re going for a bike ride. We’ve had a nice weekend together and I’m happy to know that whatever the future holds at least I’ll always have my best friend here by my side to face it with me.
