HELP! Costume accesory patterns needed!
Tue, July 11, 2006 - 7:14 PMI hit the f'ing jack pot today when I went to visit my storage unit and found my 92 qt plastic storage box plum FULL of material and scraps that I have been hoarding for YEARS. Why on earth I hoarded them for so long? Well I didnt know then, but I know now :)
See the thing is. I cant sew worth a damn. And I dont have a sewing machine. Nor do I have a grandmother with a sewing machine :). However I think I conned my mom into sewing a scarf for me without even realizing I did it. Which covers item 1.
And I actually found fuzzy material. All those years of being a """"""raver"""""" finally paid off LOL (sorry Trilo, I had to say it). I even found enough PINK FUZZY material to make two leg warmers....altho....its two different shades of pink so theyre not gonna match :). Also found lots of fuzzy animal print which will go with my fuzzy bear hat that Lightning gave me.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY???
Is there a way to make fuzzy leg warmers without sewing? Im thinking, gluing the material to a pair of socks? But....wouldnt that make them too tight and I couldnt get them on or off...velcro maybe....
ANY IDEAS?
Also...I need a way to make a neato face/dust mask. I would at least appreciate a picture of a homemade one.
HELP!

Without knowing exactly what I am talking about, having never donned on my body anything like what you are seeking, I'd say you're way better off sewing them. Me thinks they would be more durable this way. If you are not already on the tribe, you might want to look into the playalicious wear tribe. I bet you'd find your answer there. Got any fabric stores in town? If you do, you can bet there'll be a bulletin board with sewin' folk's cards, fliers, or phone numbers who would be happy to oblige you for a small fee.
Good Luck to ya!! |

Bring your furry animal prints to my house! That's how! And don't ever match. Your legs should be different colors.
Actually glue guns work pretty well, but I've only ever used them for curtains, not something I wore, so I don't know how durable. I'm thinking glue velcro on, but be careful taking them off so the glue doesn't rip instead. Try it, and if the glue doesn't stay, come over to my house! Have sewing machine. I used a scarf as a dust mask. It went around my neck the rest of the time, then it's right there when I need it. For really thick storms you might want to keep a medical mask in your pocket, and you can glue noses and whiskers on it. |

yes
Ok you need about 1 yard of fabric for leg warmers.
first measuer. length plus 2inches for elestic channel. width around wides part of leg with shoes or boots on add about 3-4 inches. cut fabric and trim the fur VERY close to the base shave if needed. along the edge that will need to meet along lenght of leg. lay out fabric turn over top edge 1 - 2inches. lay stich witchery (heat activated fabric binder) where you want it "sewn" apply heat using a peice of thin cotton fabric between iron and fabrc (follow stich witchery directions) repeat the process to bind back seams of leggs. run elestic through both channels tighten as desired knot off. |

Staples????
Velcro sounds nifty, or you could get an eyelet "gun" and make laces along the back. Shouldn't be complicated but might need a heavy duty eyelet maker cause the fabric is thick. failing that. . .sewing is not really that hard, i have discovered. |

I just saw someone post to make dust masks out of bras! It's a great idea since we won't need to wear them anywhere else!

Trust Gigi on this... she's bomb-ass at crafts.
I used that stitch-witchery stuff before, it kicks ass. It's kind of like making a grilled cheese sammich, but without butter lol... Fabric = bread, stitch witchery stuff is the cheese. The heat of the iron melts the "cheese" which becomes like a fabric glue. Dead simple. I was gonna say cut the pieces the size you want, then poke a hole in the fabric and fasten with zip-ties. But her solution is better, I think. |
