Since some of you have been following my occasional blog entries (frequently about cats), I decided to add an entry about my new cat. I was very hesitant to get another cat after losing Jasper. This guy's owner died, and he needed a home. He is another tuxedo cat, and we have named him Boris.

Shields, Jasper, Wichita, KS, died July 22 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jasper Shields was born in the winter of 1994. He was originally found hanging out at Veronica’s Cat Ranch in Belle Plaine, KS, but due to overcrowding moved to Wichita and made his home with Suzanne Shields and Randy Porter.
Jasper was an avid sports cat, who enjoyed hunting the elusive great moth, and cat school sports such as high jump and wrestling.

Several of you remember almost exactly 2 years ago when my cat Harpo died. Now my next oldest cat, Jasper, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. We are doing what we can, but probably won't have him much longer, and it is sad to watch. This is the downside of having pets - their lifespans are SO short and we just have to deal with it the best that we can.

The Midwest has been pounded with storms this week end, and I am sick of it. Fortunately, no tornados here, but lots of thunder, lightening, wind and rain. I was hoping for some fun outdoor activities this holiday week end, but it hasn't been very good for that. I can't even get th lawn mowed, because it is too wet! Nice flowers, though.

I hope everyone that was anxious for winter is happy today! It is cold, windy, and snowing. This is after 70 degrees 2 days ago. It just makes me want to curl up inside and not go out. (photo is from a previous winter storm)
