Breaking the Binky Habit

Miranda will be two in September and is firmly attached to her binky - in fact, if she sees that there is more than one, she has to have both of them - you know, just in case she loses one. She will not give it up on her own and I'm looking for suggestions on breaking her of the habit without leading to hysterics on her part and eating too much chocolate on mine.

Ah, girls

This morning I was in the bathroom while my kids were playing in the TV room. I heard a "CLONK" and then the definite sound of small hands splashing in water, which meant my son had overturned my husbands water glass on his desk and was happily playing in it. I sighed, got up, and was washing my hands when my 18-month-old daughter toddled into the doorway and looked up at me with her huge blue eyes, one hand tightly clutching her favorite beaded necklace.

"Mess" she said. "Mess!"
"Did Daniel make a mess?" I asked her gently.
"Yeah" she said, nodding her little head.

Then she wandered off to her potty and rather primly sat down.

I went out to the TV room and sure enough, there was my three-year-old, splashing around the water he had spilled. I cleaned it up and shooed him away, reflecting that if his sister was already tattling on him at 18 months old, this was going to be one long childhood for all four of us!

Question: what's the point? Is there one? Anyone? Bueller?

From my buddy Tracy: In Praise of Women over 30

MAKE SURE YOU READ TO THE END!!!

In case you missed it on 60 minutes......

This is for all you girls 30 years and over... And for those who are
turning 30, and for those who are scared of moving into their
30's...AND for guys who are scared of girls over 30!!!!... This was a
monologue by Andy Rooney from the CBS show, 60 Minutes

Andy Rooney said:

As I grow in age, I value women who are over 30 most of all. Here are
just a few reasons why:

A woman over 30 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask,
"What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think.

If a woman over 30 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit
around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it's
usually something more interesting.

A woman over 30 knows herself well enough to be assured in whom she
is, what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age
of 30 give a hoot what you might think about her or what she's doing.

Women over 30 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with
you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant.

Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if
they think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what
it's like to be unappreciated.

A woman over 30 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women
friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best
friend because she doesn't trust the guy with other women. Women over
30 couldn't care less if you're attracted to her friends because she
knows her friends won't betray her.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to
a woman over 30. They always know.

A woman over 30 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not
true of younger women.

Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 30 is far sexier than
her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if
you are a jerk & if you are acting like one! You don't ever have to
wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 30 for a multitude of reasons.
Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman of 30+, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of
himself with some 22-year-old waitress.

Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk
for free".

Here's an update for you.

Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why?

Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire Pig, just to get
a little sausage.

Gaiety abounds

So a buddy of mine posted an link to an online sermon on how homosexuality is an abomination - quoting God, of course - and proceeded to list all biblical evidence of God saying so. The orator went on to list human justification for homosexuality, and how biological factors and similar behavior in the animal world turned out to be a 'straw man' (never mind that the whole point of science is to disprove all hypotheses, and new ones are springing up all the time) and that God is infallible and men should stop fucking men and women should stop fucking women and go with Christ or forever burn in hell like the beasts they are.

This orator, I believe, should be served a hot steaming cup of "I DON"T FUCKING CARE!!!!"

Jesus. Love between humans is scarce enough without having to limit whom gets to boink whom (with the VERY notable exception of pedophiles, who need to kill themselves immediately.) However, if two men love each other, or two women love each other, then good for them and it's nobody elses business. I'm tired of whiny, insecure people like the aforementioned orator using their outdated religious dogma to assume the mantle of moral superiority and attempt to control the lives of others. Now, I'm all for using simple ethics to control behavior...for example, indiscriminately killing people isn't NICE... but I know some people would argue that ethics have a moral root, and morality is wholly dictated by religion, to which I cry bullshit. But that's a whole 'nother post, and my son is waking up.

The point is...if you don't hold with homosexuality, don't practice it. These folks aren't hurting anyone, so just leave them the fuck alone.

That is all.
