Walk-about

   Wed, December 12, 2007 - 1:18 PM

I walked to work this morning. The walk soothed the stirring shadows inside. The air was moist and cool but heavy. Twas like wearing a bracelet of air with tiny droplets of water... The temperature in the 60's.I must remark this is unusual weather for this moutaineous region but very much valued.

I relished looking up at the bright blue sky through the skeletal boughs of the hardwood trees lining the quiet streets. My feet crunched the loose black gravel strewn last week by the cinder truck. I slowly walked through the Presbyterian Cemetery and passed by the black weathered lichen covered tombstones lined in rows. My eye roamed over the quiet cemetery wondering at the solitude and longevity in death as I passed by.

Mmmmm, my tummy still ached from my early morning situps as I made my way to work.... The ache felt good, I enjoyed the hurt, a reminder I was alive. I felt beauty, around and reached up with my eyes to caress that which I saw.

Walking cleared my mind, ground me and put me in good spirits. I enjoy cool, moist walks on crisp winter mornings!

Humming,

Oh, Swan, you certainly have a way with words. As I read this, I could see the cemetary and the sky through the branches. I am always amazed at the difference places one will find such beauty as you so eloquently described. Thank you for sharing this. You've inspired me to slow down and take a walk to work! :)

In awe,

Oh, you're bringing back memories of Lewisburg! We used to have our Moms Connection meeting at the church by the cemetary. The name is escaping me - Black something maybe? or Stone something?

Blessed be she who can speak with the wisdom of ages to the soul of the listener. The ear of my heart dances to the music of your words.

Amira,

It is the Old Stone Presbyterian Church Cemetery....

Glad I could be of assistance in stirring the shadows of your memory.
