Death to the Plastic Bag!

<div>For the last couple of years I have noticed, both at home and abroad, a disturbing phenomenon--the plastic bag has and continues to infiltrate all corners of our planet. I have seen, picked up, carried home, and disposed of plastic bags from trees, volcanos, beaches, trails, streets, dogs' mouths, gutters etc... The developed and developing countries that I have visited have one thing in common: clear, pink, blue and green plastic bags line the streets, streams, rivers, and beaches. Beaches supposedly protected for endangered sea turtle nesting are littered with them. They line our mountain tops and our streets. They cling to the trees in parks all over the world like crepe paper left over from mardi gra. To me, plastic bags have come to represent the carelessness, greed, and unconsciousness of today's global society. Today, I stopped accepting them. I urge you to do the same. Plastic bags may make your life easier today but, I believe they will clog and inhibit our ability to cleanse this earth.

Death to the plastic bag!

Working on Letting Go

<div>Chains of Attachment

A Sufi teaching story tells of the man who visited a great mystic to find out how to let go of his chains of attachment and his prejudices.

Instead of answering him directly, the mystic jumped to his feet and bolted to a nearby pillar, flung his arms around it, grasping the marble surface as he screamed, "Save me from this pillar! Save me from this pillar!"

The man who had asked the question could not believe what he saw. He thought the mystic was mad. The shouting soon brought a crowd of people. "Why are you doing that?" the man asked. "I came to you to ask a spiritual question because I thought you were wise, but obviously you are crazy. You are holding the pillar, the pillar is not holding you. You can simply let go."

The mystic let go of the pillar and said to the man, "If you can understand that, you have your answers. Your chains of attachment are not holding you, you are holding them. You can simply let go."

Serenity Now!

<div>I must share with you all. I just returned from an amazing journey with the girls. 6 of us boarded Serenity Now! and traveled to Nevade, California, Oregon, and Idaho. The people we met were fantastic. Everywhere we went, we seemed to inspire people to reflect upon their present paths. I was really surprised, although I shouldn't have been, by the kindness and love that came our way. My girls rock!</div>
