Re: Commision on Artwork at a Dance Studio? (in The Biz of Belly Dance) The "50% commission and falling" idea was just a proposal. Of course, no artist should accept that if she's not comfortable with it. I thought it would be a good system to encourage both the host and the artist to publicize sales through that ven... read more

Re: Twitter observations... (in Belly Dancing - the Shira.net Tribe) I checked out the egytweet thing, it's pretty amusing. :)

Re: This makes me sad (in Belly Dancing - the Shira.net Tribe) I like the idea of just making a positive comment and moving on. If I knew the dancer, I might tell her it was up there, but then again I might not...she might be better off not knowing. It's not as though many people I like or respect spend the... read more

Re: Commision on Artwork at a Dance Studio? (in The Biz of Belly Dance) I like the start low and raise it periodically idea. Be up front about it: "Right now I'm taking 5% (or 15% or whatever) of sales, but I may change the percentage next year". You could also set up some kind of deal where you go halves on the fir... read more

Today's the day! Vote Obama/Biden for Constitutional Integrity! (blog entry) You can be cynical and bitter the other 1460 days of the Presidential Election Cycle! For now, get out and vote for the candidates of your choice, especially the Big Ticket!

Woohoo!

It started with illegal, pre-convention round-ups of "key" anti-war organizers before the Republican National Convention.

It continued with legitimate arrests of a few vandals during the afternoon of Labor Day, September 1st.

By the end of Labor Day, the police had spiraled out of control, and were detaining and arresting downtown Saint Paul residents heading for home, people trying to reach a free concert in a city park, people trying to get to work, and journalists (both famous and no... read more

Hi people on tribe,

At this point, I've stopped "friending" anyone I don't know in RL (yes, I'm sure there may eventually be exceptions, but that's my call). I may even start removing people from my friends list, especially if they never post/blog, or if I just don't feel that connected to them. I guess I'm just not that into the whole racking up points thing. I also dislike the implication of a character reference. The whole thing seems phony.

I know it's odd to say that bit about ... read more

My Testimonials

da Sage is a new friend of mine, I am so thankful to have met her. Not only is she funny, intelligent, and talented, she likes to drool over costumes and beat on a doumbek, just like me! And I found out at the Ammala hafla that she crochets...who else would bring a crochet project to a hafla? This girl is too cool! Her blog makes me laugh...and laughter is a cherished thing in this world!

Looking forward to drumming with her again sometime. Peace! Salihah
