<div>I officially opened my cafe today, in the afternoon. I had been waiting for my local health inspector to give me the green light. He came in today and gave me the thumbs up I needed to open the door. I am ready to serve a modest menu tomorrow.

<div>Hello all. sorry it has been so long. I have been given a gift of opportunity. A new cafe ready to open when I am.

There is a place in Moncton called the Centre Cultural Aberdeen, and in this cultural centre there is cafe. It has gone through 2 owners since the original owner sold it 2 years ago. The last owner started Cafe Jocob, named after her grandson, with her husband as a retirement project for the artist run centre. Unfortunately he passed away a few months back. a friend of mine has been running the cafe since, in a state of culinary limbo, never really knowing what she was going to do.

On Wednesday of this week she made me an offer to purchase the cafe that I cannot refuse. The risk is worth the effort and the price is excepional, never agin will I see an offer of this generouity again in my life. I am beside myself, and humbly accept the gift.

If all goes well, I'll be the sole owner of a fully operational cafe, to be called Cafe Aberdeen, as of Feb 1.

I like tight deadlines.

Send me some happy thoughts, wishes of stability, clear communication and balance, as I am keeping my original cafe open too.

Thank goodness mercury is not in retrograde!

    </a>
<div>I always knew I lived in the right part of Canada...Moncton is on the LIST!!!

TORONTO (CP) - Go west isn't good advice if what you want to do is wind up in most of Canada's top 10 places to live.

MoneySense magazine has come out with its second annual list of Canada's Best Places to Live. It ranked 123 Canadian communities with a population greater than 10,000, crunching the numbers on everything from the weather, real estate values, income levels and unemployment rates to discretionary income, crime rates and signs of prosperity.

The country's capital came out on top, with mid-sized and smaller cities filling out the top 10.

Ottawa was rated as Canada's best overall place to live, said MoneySense features editor Duncan Hood, because it didn't do poorly in any category, had high household incomes but the housing is still relatively affordable - leaving people with more discretionary income. He said MoneySense thinks that means a higher quality of life.

Rounding out the top 10 were Halifax, Quebec City, Guelph, Ont., Fredericton, N.B., Kingston, Ont., Moncton, N.B., London, Ont., Victoria and Gander, NL.

"The cities that seem to offer the best quality of life are the cities that allow you to have all the great things about living in a small town . . . that offer up workplaces that you can walk to or get to easily without sitting for hours on the highway. Places that offer you the opportunity to own your own home and have a decent-sized lawn. All those great things about smaller communities but they also offer you some of the great things about big cities like higher incomes and more amenities."

Hood said Ottawa would seem to be just sort of the perfect balance of the two things.

MoneySense also found east beats west - except for Victoria, no cities west of Ontario made the top 10.

"Where east really beat west was because our houses are cheaper. The housing is just so expensive in the west in general that that is consuming more and more people's incomes and it generally leaves them poorer. It leaves them with less discretionary income and we think that's the main reason that places out west didn't fare as well as the places out east."

Amazingly, a boomtown like Fort McMurray, Alta., was actually penalized. It has Canada's highest average household income at $135,000 a year.

"When you looked at the city more carefully, we found actually the growth rates are too high there. The infrastructure is not keeping up and the housing prices are just unbelievable there."

Canada's biggest cities finished out of the top 10.

Among them, Toronto fared the best but came in at No, 12. Hood said Toronto rated well because it had high household incomes - the fifth highest in the country. Hood said the average household in Toronto makes $91,000 a year. But the big city was near the basement in the cost of housing, ranking 103 out of 123.

Among other big cities, Winnipeg came in at 13, Montreal finished at 23, Calgary was 28 and Edmonton was 31.

Finishing at the bottom of the barrel at 123 was Port Alberni, B.C., and Hood said it fared poorly because it had a high unemployment rate and fairly low household incomes.

<div>
PROPAGANDA FROM REUTERS.....like the US has good pot......ha ha ha "POT 2.0" WTF??

U.S. marijuana even stronger than before: report

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The marijuana being sold across the United States is stronger than ever, which could explain a growing number of medical emergencies that involve the drug, government drug experts on Wednesday.

Analysis of seized samples of marijuana and hashish showed that more of the cannabis on the market is of the strongest grade, the White House and National Institute for Drug Abuse said.

They cited data from the University of Mississippi's Marijuana Potency Project showing the average levels of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, in the products rose from 7 percent in 2003 to 8.5 percent in 2006.

The level had risen steadily from 3.5 percent in 1988.

National Institute on Drug Abuse Director Dr. Nora Volkow fears the problem is not being taken seriously because many adults remember the marijuana of their youth as harmless.

"It's really not the same type of marijuana," Volkow said in a telephone interview.

"This could explain why there has been an increase in the number of medical emergencies involving marijuana."

The pharmacy department at Mississippi has compiled data on 59,369 samples of cannabis, 1,225 hashish samples, and 443 hash oil samples confiscated since 1975. "The highest concentration of (THC) found in a cannabis (marijuana) sample is 33.12 percent from Oregon State Police," the report reads.

'THIS IS POT 2.0'

Hashish and hash oil concentrations are far higher, as they consist of processed plant product.

"Researchers and treatment experts have argued for some time that today's more powerful marijuana has more harmful effects on users. This report underscores that we are no longer talking about the drug of the 1960s and 1970s -- this is Pot 2.0," John Walters, director of National Drug Control Policy, said in a statement.

Volkow said demand has driven growers to cultivate the stronger stuff. "It is the market," she said. "Like in the market you favor the best tomatoes. When people buy marijuana, they don't want a weak cigarette."

Volkow's institute has been studying the effects of cannabis, whose active ingredients are very similar to important brain chemicals called endogenous cannabinoids.

"It clearly is addictive," she said.

If children and adolescents use marijuana, it could affect their still-developing brains, she said.

The report said more than 60 percent of teens receiving treatment for drug abuse or dependence report marijuana as their primary drug of abuse.

"Although the overall number of young people using marijuana has declined in recent years, there is still reason for great concern, particularly since roughly 60 percent of first-time marijuana users are under 18 years old," Volkow said.

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health 4.1 million Americans, or 1.7 percent of the population, report they use marijuana.

    </a>
										<div>Hi all,

I have a review and an article in Here Magazine.

The article is about surviving Christmas, and the review is of my sammie shop.

Check them out!

St. George Soup and Sandwich scores
The Two Fat Guys advise you to check out this lunchtime spot.

Located at the corner of St. George St. and Cameron nestled within Super Grocer convenience store, St. George Soup and Sandwich is owned by Chef Arne Fulton where he offers up quick and healthy lunch specials each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bob's verdict

I have been to this convenience store several times over the last couple of years; Arne Fulton has only recently started operating this lunch counter. Well known around the city, Arne was recently very visible at Taste of Moncton and can be found at the Westmorland Farmers Market in the upstairs kitchen demonstration area at times.

We had never met per se, so I wasn't concerned about being recognized but to be certain, Jack and I both visited his lunch counter on separate days.

Offering a couple of homemade soups and three different sandwiches each day, you can eat in at the few tables offered or take out your lunch. Arne himself was looking after the counter when I was there and the service was quick and friendly.

I decided on the ham and brie sandwich. All sandwiches come with a choice of home-style healthy breads so I opted for the multigrain bread. A thick layer of shaved juicy oven roasted ham, topped with a wide slice of brie cheese, a bowl of broccoli soup and an oatmeal cranberry muffin and I was good to go. Each client receives a mini muffin also if you just need a small bite for your sweet tooth.

I was in a rush and didn't pay attention to the sandwich making. Once I got back, I was surprised to see that the beautiful bread, generous amount of ham and cheese were all alone between the slices. After I had a bite of it however, I suspect it's suppose to be that way as the flavours of the room temperature brie and oven roasted ham would not have been as prominent had it been obstructed with lettuce, tomato or other fixings. Great call.

The soup was creamy but not heavy and a tad on the salty side for my taste and the muffin simply delicious; tender, tart and sweet with a wonderful texture, I should have gotten a few more, they were that good.

So if you want a quick and healthy lunch, all this for under $8 including tax, check out St. George Soup and Sandwich. 9/10

Jack's verdict

St. George Soup and Sandwich is an interesting little lunch counter. I went there expecting something like a small diner, but found something more like a health-food, gourmet counter operating out of someone's home, except that it's set up in a variety store. And Arne was there, too. He's a friendly and chatty sort of guy, and I guess he's there most of the time. He told me that he was planning to change the name of the establishment, so if you go looking for his place, don't turn around if it has a different name.

On the menu, which changes daily, was a choice of three sandwiches and two soups. I was offered a choice between four fresh, home-baked breads from Emily's Bakery. I decided on the roast beef and feta cheese sandwich on multi-grain bread and a clam chowder. Included with each soup and sandwich deal is a mini-muffin, one of those bite-size muffins that are made in what looks like a 1/4 cup muffin tin. I asked for tomatoes on my sandwich, and Arne told me that they cost an extra $0.25, but I got some all the same. Since I also wanted a full-size muffin, Arne said he'd forgo the charge for the tomato, which was nice, but to be honest I was kind of surprised to see that he charged extra for them in the first place.

Well the lunch cost me $9.33, drink and taxes included, which is peanuts really. Everything was delicious. I loved the roast beef and feta combination so much that I went out and bought beef that evening to start experimenting at home. The bread was fresh and tasty. The chowder was really a pleasant surprise, too: it had just enough shredded carrot in it to add colour and sweetness, and - a surprise to me - mushrooms. The mushrooms added a great touch and made the chowder really unique.

You simply can't go wrong with lunch here: under $10, with creative menu choices all prepared by a skillful chef, it's an easy 10/10 for this kind of place.

    </a>
<div>OTTAWA (CP) - The House of Commons has voted against revisiting the same-sex marriage issue, closing the door on the divisive debate - again.
MPs voted 175-123 on Thursday against a Conservative motion calling for the government to introduce legislation restoring the traditional definition of marriage. Most Tories and about a dozen Liberals supported the motion, which would have protected existing gay marriages.

Most Liberals, a dozen Conservatives and all NDP and Bloc Quebecois MPs present opposed it.

It's the second time the House has voted in favour of gay marriage.

In 2005, MPs passed a law legalizing same-sex unions.

The Liberal government of the day was forced to examine its legislation starting in 2003, when the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled that barring same-sex couples from marriage was unconstitutional.

Gays and lesbians began marrying in the province, and soon other jurisdictions faced similar rulings and began issuing licences.

Thousands of gay Canadians, as well as foreign visitors, have been married in the last three years.

The previous Liberal government took the further step of consulting the Supreme Court on whether its own legislation would infringe upon freedom of religion. The court responded that the Charter would protect churches from having to officiate such marriages.

Still, the Conservative government has been studying the possibility of introducing a bill that would explicitly state that churches and other religious institutions would not be required to solemnize gay marriages.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper promised during the last election campaign that he would allow a free vote in the Commons on whether to reopen the same-sex marriage law.

Before Thursday's vote, a clutch of Ottawa-area students gathered at the foot of the Peace Tower waving placards and chanting slogans in favour of gay marriage.

<div>Hi y'all, it seems that naming my sandwich shop after myself was fun, but not nessesary. I have deiced to change the name, and add a little bit of home town spirit.

My sammie shop is on St George Street, a street in need of some serious development, and so I thought I'd name the shop after good ol' Sante Jorge. (yes Camie, it is true)

So there you have it : St George Soupe &amp; Sandwich is the new name.

And for all you out there wondering about the legal diifuclties, well they left in as much confusion as they came. Gone, just like a Train (Bill Frizzel)

Love you all!

    </a>
<div>Well, for the first time in my life I may need the help of lawyers. I am not sure that I am truely in need at this point, however I am not about to take chances.

This past few weeks have proved challenging with my old job. My Sammie shop is going great, but my old employeers are having a very hard time letting go. They have begun to use phrases like, "Legal Dept". I was not even aware that they had a legal dept.

Here is a wonderful poem by Pablo Neruda, if you have not heard of this poet, what's wrong wit cha? He speaks clearly to me.

Disaction by Pablo Neruda

The dove is filled with spilt papers,
its breast is stained with erasers and weeks,
with blotting paper whiter than a corpes
and inks frightened by their sinister color.

Come with me to the shadow of administrations,
to the weak, delicate, pallid color of the chiefs,
to the tunnels deep as calendars,
to the doleful thousand-paged wheel.

Let us examine now the titles and the conditions,
the special afidavits, the vigils,
the petitions with their teeth of nauseous autumn,
the fury of ashen destinies and sad decisions.

It is a tale of wounded bones,
bitter circumstances and interminable clothes,
and stockings suddenly serious.

It is the dead of night, the veinless head
from which day suddenly falls
as if from a bottle broken by a lightingbolt.

They are the feet and the clocks and the fingers
and a locomotive of dying soap,
and a bitter sky of soaked metal,
and a yellow river of smiles.

Everything reaches the tips of fingers like flowers,
and fingernails like lightningbolts, withered armchairs,
everything reaches the ink of death
and the violet mouths of the tax stamps.

Let us weep for the death of earth and fire,
swords, grapes,
the sexes with their tough realms of roots,
the alcohol ships sailing among ships
and the perfume that dances at night, on its knees,
dragging behind a planet of perforated roses.

With dog’s suits and stains on our brows
let us fall into the depths of the papers,
into the anger of enchained words,
into demonstrations tenaciously defunct,
into systems wrapped in yellow leaves.

Come with me to the offices, to the uncertain
smell of ministries, and tombs, and postage stamps.
Come with me to the white day that is dying
screaming like a murdered bride. </div>

Executive Chef to Sandwich Baron!

    </a>
<div>It has been a while since I have posted in my blog. I have been busy with Arne's Place.

Things are going very well and I am happy to report that I have already seen an increase in sales in just three weeks. That might mean nothing at this point but it is encouraging.

I have also discovered that vegetarian sandwiches are my best sellers, and that people who like bad sliced meats will pay more for them than good meats.

As I had taken over an existing buisness, I did not realize that the "sub" portion would be missed. I was wrong, dead wrong. Every day people come in wanting subs made from bad sliced salami, pepperoni and ham. BLECH!!!!

So I decided that if they want that they can have it but they are going to have to pay me for it. So I charge them a lot and they still buy it. Go figure.

I'll continue to sell them at 80% profit and see if it works. I would really not like them to sell as good as they do as I feel they take away some of the wholesomeness I have attemped to create.

I am also happy to say that I have some very regular customers. In the last three weeks I have determined that I have about 4 customers that I see at least 4 times out of five, and at least 3 that have been in every single day I am open. That is also encouraging!

Thanks every one for your support again! I cannot thank every one enough!
