Adventure 101

Dear Friends

I took a car into the Himalaya today to visit Kunjipuri, a hilltop temple in a tiny village.

After saying goodbye to Rishikesh, an hour of winding road into the Himalaya and what seemed 10,000 steps into the sky.... I was rewarded with spectacular views of the ancient mountains surrounding me and the amazing city of Rishikesh below.

Durga is queen here and the sister of the fiery goddess rules the roost at Kunjipuri. A friend showed me the ropes and I got a darsh... read more

I had the great blessing to sit next Amritanandamayi Devi last night (Amma to those in the US).

The night sky was covered with stars. There was a slow cool breeze. Amma's singing drifted through loud speakers and filled my ears.

Men and women formed cues on opposite sides of the stage. A skilled attendant pulled me and my friends from our seats.

As an invited guest, seated in the first row, I was in the first group of a massive crowd to receive Amritanandamayi Devi's Darshan (... read more

Dear Friendz -

Right now I'm in a crazy little spot on the map (actually it's not on
the map, didn't even make it into Lonely Planet) Kushal Nagar.... took one bus to
another bus to another. In hopes of finding an elusive Tibetan
settlement and Golden Temple. Instead. It's this crazy. Semi sane, semi chaotic

A trip down the
Valapalunman River in the Kerala Backwaters.

A group of 11 of us took a thirty minute bus ride to Katampoli, a backwaters launching point for
“Kerala Style” wooden houseboats.

The air was balmy and thick. Like the rich salty water of the Valapalunman River. The music, sultry
loud “old school” Hindi.

The river is inhabited by thousands of colorful jellyfish. Wriggling creatures gliding through the
water in hypnotic dance. They swim... read more

8th January, 2008

The Sun. She's moving toward Africa.

The days are wider. And. The Year IS. New.

2012 approaches. Is time speeding up? Do I need a Guru?

Indians. They are closer to the ground. They can hear. The beat.

A heartbeat? Or is it a drum?

Chaos on the surface. But. Below. Underneath.

Rhythm. Drum. Heart?

The Sun. She's going.

But. The waves. They keep coming.
