Cabaret=The shizz

I'm a little preoccupied with Peak Oil right now, so I'm finding it hard to muster passion for bellydance related things. There is one thing that is getting me going with bellydance right now though: cabaret.

I've trained tribal almost exclusively since I started bellydance, and I'm regretting not broadening my horizons more. Cabaret is supercool and refreshing and challenging. I _heart_ it.

There was absolutely no point to this entry other than to say that. Go cab!

I love my performance break. It's so awesome to just sit and watch other people dance in the jeans I wore all day. Every time I see someone performing, I think 'I'm so glad that's not me.' The effort seems daunting at this point. Better to watch, observe and train right now. Plus, it's nice to spend my free time baking, cooking, hanging out with friends and watching South Park rather than being in rehersals. In the meantime, I have fallen incredibly in love with watching other dancers. It's almost like when I first found bellydance.

300

Just saw 300. I know, I'm rather behind the times. I noticed several things.

I know that Spartans used brutal techniques to weed out the weak and disabled, but was every single Spartan man a bodybuilder?

Is it physically possible for Gerard Butler to not scream the word 'Sparta?' It doesn't seem like it.

Leather panties are an interesting choice for fighting gear.

The Spartan army flirts with each other relentlessly.

Why are all the Persians deformed? I was a little offended.

What was up with the monster creatures? It's ancient Greece, not Middle Earth.

Does everyone who objects to King Lionitus (which by the way, sounds like a deformity) have to be hideously ugly?

It seems that the only role of an oracle is to thrash around in see through clothing and then whisper unintelligably. In slow motion.

Nice lighting. Seriously.

What the hell is a djembe doing in fucking Persia?

Oh well. It's better than Gladiator, where people wore medieval armor and corsets in ANCIENT ROME.

...is the number of cities I was in this past weekend. Asheville, Charlotte, Baltimore, Boston, Carver, Salem, Plymouth, Cape Cod, Atlanta. I'm exhausted, but it was worth it. Fun stuff.

dreams are so weird

Last night I had this dream where beheading had been restored as a form of punishment, and it was taking place all over asheville. Asheville had turned into this weird, Tim Burton-like skeezy city, and there were all kinds of executions taking place in like, back alleys. At some point I got exectued, but I somehow survived and sewed my head back on. Nothing seemed strange about it until I thought "How did I survive beheading?", and then I woke up. There is no real point to this post other than I just wanted to write down my dream before I forget it. God, that was weird.
