Featuring Jarboe (of Swans) and MUCH MORE! www.sigilnight.com THE 3RD ANNUAL "SIGIL" AT THE OAKLAND METRO OPERA HOUSE ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2009 featuring THE LIVING JARBOE (of legendary No Wave band Swans) Experimental vocalist/composer/performance-artist The Living Jarboe will headline an evening of dark carnival delights at the Oakland Metro on Sat., Oct. 10, as part of the 3rd Annual Sigil. Sigil, which means "A sign or word held to have occult power," will also feature the twisted opera styling of avant-garde vocalist Jennifer Sullivan, All Female Body Suspension and Performance Art troupe Apotheosis, Nezzy Idy's "EJ" (Experience Jockey) supernatural sonic-visual blends, a Houdini-style straight-jacket escape by David Apocalypse, Mystifying belly dance performances by L'Anonyme Dance Collective (feat. members of Lapsus), Red Lotus Belly Dance, Rose Harden, Meliza Wells, Keri Langwell, Tanja Odzak, Erin Harper and Cynthia, bedtime stories for naughty children courtesy of Onkel Woland, a dark-drag run-in with Reverend Mother Joseph, off-kilter clowning with Dirty Secrets the Clown, Special dance performance by Dusty Paik, a garden inspired striptease by Oopsy Daisy, Flickering visual stimuli by Andrea Costantino, plus aerial art by Paper Doll Militia, Various other circus-and-sideshow spectacles, and works by local visual artists...and yes, more. A veteran of the early '80s New York No Wave scene, Jarboe was a core member of legendary avant-rockers Swans until their disbanding in 1997. She has since released more than a dozen solo albums, including 2008's "Mahakali," which one reviewer hailed as "nightmarish and enchanting. "Jarboe challenges listeners with visceral compositions inspired as much by her early years among the snake-handling conjurers of The South's tent-revival circuit as her experiences in the experimental music scene. Jarboe will be joined onstage by Kris Force of Amber Asylum, Fade Kainer of Inswarm, and performance ritual troupe Aixela. To emcee the evening will be local dark-cabaret maestro Vinsantos, sharing goth-damaged torch songs from his reaper-toire and lightening the mood with his unique brand of cheeky macabre-snark. In the lounge, DJs Miz Margo (Dark Sparkle), DJ Rick, Ian Seabock and The Antithisus spin a hypnotic, all-night blend of goth, glam, dark-indie, post-punk, Persian-flavored trip-hop and dark dubstep to tipple, twirl and sway to, while local artisans, including Noble Imports and Sales, Salome's Suitcase, Melodia, RaVeNuS, Grey Cat, Anthrope Wear, Corviid Art and Sparkplug Mary's, peddle unique handcrafted apparel and gifts in the Outre Bazaar area.
