about me
I cook for a living. I play the cello in an orchestra, am learning the art of Bellydance, and am a jeweller and jewelry artist. I enjoy being creative in any way, but especially when it comes to personal adornment.
I am a wild child, and am full of strong opinions!

Stuff I feel like sharing

One of the highlights of my summer was attending a fantastic workshop with Elizabeth Strong in Nova Scotia on Turkish Roman style.
I thought it was so cool that she made a trip to NS just to teach us for a weekend! She was awesome, and a super sweet lady! I felt very priveledged to be learning from such a great dancer! The best part was the performance night, where I had THE BEST seat and she was dancing right in front of me! Wow!
This was my first workshop, and I'm glad I went. I had a hard time keeping up with some of what she was covering, but it was a great learning experience, and lots of fun :)
I have started taking my 2 classes a week, but it looks like one may be cancelled :( I was so looking forward to 2 classes with 2 different teachers. Oh well, c'est la vie I guess.
Barb is giving a workshop in October with Elise Olmi from Montreal. She will be covering Turkish Roman as well as Turkish Oriental and drills for drum solo. Looking forward to this, as I can continue where I left off with Elizabeth's teachings.
One goal I have for this year is to finally grow some balls and get up and perform! I think it's time I give it a shot, but probably won't be till the end of year show Barb puts on with her students. Either way, it's time I kick myself in the butt and do it!

Another highlight of my summer was winning the Seafood Chowder challenge at the Atlantic Seafood Festival this year! Apparently I beat 3 Red Seal chefs! What a great accomplishment to have under my belt :) I made my Chef proud, and won an award for our restaurant! Yay! I got a 90% on my Block 1 exam and am scheduled to go back to school in January to do Block 2 and 3 back to back. Can't wait to get it over with- I hate school and my teacher was a knob. Nice guy, shitty teacher.

Marilyn Manson was just here on Saturday and I was SO FREAKING HAPPY to go see him! I had a great time at the concert, and I'm still baffled as to why he would come to Moncton- it's so small here. I'm really glad he did though, cuz I love him! I wake up every morning with his songs in my head. Weird.
I still can't get over why so many people hate him and think he's a monster. I guess not everyone can read between the lines. Either way, I stand by my feelings- the man is my hero! I'm obsessed!

Orchestra season is up and running again, there are 4 cellists this year, which is a bit strange, but we seem to have a decent group this year and I think practices will be a bit less boring since the violinists seem to be on the ball so far. (We usually get to sit out and listen to violins struggle through parts for half the practice which is extremely boring for me!) Not sure if Mary Blake and I will do the Brahms piece afterall, since both our schedules are insane right now and coodinating practice time is almost an excercise in futility! Oh well.

I guess that's it for now....

Holy crap!
So my harddrive clonked-out on me in February, and I couldn't log into tribe until today! I had to use an e-mail that I never use, and forgot the password for it, so could not access my password for tribe. Finally got it fixed, so I can come back here again! Woot!
Glad to be back online :)

I play the cello. I started when I was in grade 7, in High School, and fell in love with it.
I am mostly self-taught, except for the basics they teach you in HS. I got bored fast and started to buy my own music and learn the pieces by myself. I picked up some bad habits, but generally, I am pretty good I guess.
Anyhoo, so when I was in HS I was involved in 4 different orchestras, and I also had a cellist partner to play duets and the like with. We performed a lot back then.
I have since moved to Moncton, and the city has no orchestra! Let alone any classical community to speak of. Sure there are some trios and whatnot, but no orchestra.
It was years after I moved here that I met someone else who plays the cello. We are members of the Mount Alison Chamber Orchestra. It's in Sackville, and if he wasn't driving me there, I wouldn't be able to go. I am not a student, but have the priveledge of playing with them.
I met a violinist there, and she has since switched to Universite de Moncton, and lives in the same city as me. I sugested we play something together. Some violin/cello concerto or something. So she suggests Brahms.
Yah.
So I go and buy this piece, set up my music stand and giver a whirl. Wow!
lol
This is NOT going to be an easy piece to learn let alone master.......

but I'll figure it out.....

So I am in the process of a cooking apprenticeship to get my Red Seal. I have been on a waiting list for school, and finally the other day I got a start date for my classes. YAY!
I am so excited to get this over with! I've been waiting a year to get into school.
Thinking back to my first week as a line cook, I realise how much I've learned in the last 2 years. I mean, I'm a great cook at home, but man, line cooking is a whole other ball game!
I often say to my co-workers that I want to make a documentary about it. I think the world needs to know what goes on behind those doors. And it ain't anything like Hell's Kitchen or Kitchen Nightmares or any of that silly TV garbage. Atleast not where I work anyways.
It's a whole other world in a restaurant kitchen. For me, it's a love/hate relationship. The adrenaline rush is something that will drive you to drink. I remember the night I considered my 'initiation' into line cooking, and when they brought me a beer at the end of my shift, I just chugged that thing in seconds, wiped my mouth and said "now I understand why cooks are drunks!"
The sous chef was raving about Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential so much last year that I asked to borrow it. I expected it to reveal some dark mystery about the world I had involved myself in, and though I enjoyed it, it was not what I had expected. I think I am due for a second reading none the less.
I am the only female cook where I work, and I wear that badge with pride. I am loud, profane and am notorious for my sonic belches. So much so that my boss warns the potential newbies about me, and assures them that I am one of the guys.
Yup. I love my job. But sometimes, I just wanna take out the Monster and stab something. *giant evil grin*

I am mostly a rough and tough tomboy type (incase y'all haven't figured that out yet). My boyfriend convinces me to join a bellydancing class a few years ago, and I did. We call it my 'learning how to be a girl' classes LOL
I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but I am full into'er now. Costumes and the whole lot.
I have been taking these classes for just over 2 years now. They have become an important aspect of my life, helping me balance my masuline and feminine energies, and helping me release the stress and anxiety that my job inevitably causes.
Because of the cold weather and distance, I have recently switched from one studio to another. After learning from 2 different teachers, both of whom I really enjoy, I have decided that when the weather changes, I think I would like to go to both classes. This is exciting for me because I will have twice the learning time, and both classes offer different styles, so I feel this will make me a stronger and more versatile dancer.

I seem to be dabbling a lot in costuming lately. I have this thing I can't control with tribal 'Rachel Brice' style costumes. I have been creating headpieces, hairfalls and cowrie braids, mixing and matching, and lately tearing apart my egyptian/cabaret style costumes and re-making them with a more tribal flair. I seem to be very resourceful in finding materials for these projects, and I hate to say it (but on a budget I can't help it) I LOVE THE DOLLARSTORE!
I don't dance publicly as I don't feel ready yet, but I do get all dressed up for my classes, partly because it helps me feel like a dancer and partly because I WANT TO WEAR IT NOW! lol
One of these days when I get 'Aroundtuit' I'll post some pics of my new creations.
Enough babble for one day.
Over and out.
