Happy day! I’m escaping reality for a few days of desert meditation and recreation. I’m leaving tonight to tromp among the junipers and cottonwoods, the lizards and ringtails, down majestic varnished red rock canyons cut by tricking streams and wind and age. They meander back and forth and back and forth, creating caves and caverns, swimming holes, shady moist grottos, nooks and crannies and all kinds of places for adventure to hide.

Happy Beltane! For some that means the first day of summer. But it appears winter is holding on tenaciously—I woke up to fresh snow on the ground and snowflakes fell sporadically and languidly as I made my way to work. It’s been a long and cold winter, so seeing the new flowers and budding trees has given me a sense of release and relief.
