The New York Times
"Behind TV Analysts, Pentagon’s Hidden Hand"
www.nytimes.com/2008/04/20...nerals.html
" To the public, these men are members of a familiar fraternity, presented tens of thousands of times on television and radio as “military analysts” whose long service has equipped them to give authoritative and unfettered judgments about the most pressing issues of the post-Sept. 11 world.
Hidden behind that appearance of objectivity, though, is a Pentagon information apparatus that has used those analysts in a campaign to generate favorable news coverage of the administration’s wartime performance, an examination by The New York Times has found."

Perhaps it helped that I don't watch television, so I never heard what any of these bought-and-paid-for-asshats had to say in support of us invading foreign nations.
One of the best analogies I've heard was, I believe, Carlin, who described the media as "the unnofficial public-relations branch of the United States Federal Government." The very little news that we see which exposes government deception doesn't reach those who are deceived by the government. And even as one who loathes apathy, it's a real motherfucker when your most open-minded, progressive thinking friends and loved ones just don't give a shit. It's like the credit scam - just barely meeting the minimums won't dig you (or your country) out of that hole. Makes you want to give up and accept your own slavery like the rest of them so you can at least alleviate the suffering. I didn't mean to go in four different directions at once, but hey,(shrugs) what are ya gonna do? |
