"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new landscapes but in having new eyes." - Proust

"I guess I could be pretty pissed off
About what’s happened to me.
But it’s hard to stay mad, when there’s
So much beauty in the world.

Sometimes, I feel like I’m seeing it all at once,
And it’s too much.
My heart fills up
Like a balloon, that’s about to burst.

And then I remember to relax
And stop trying to hold onto it.
And it flows through me, like rain.
And I can’t feel anything but gratitude
For every single moment
Of my stupid, little life."

Lester Birnham, in “American Beauty”

about me
I'm terrible at these about me boxes..

I live in the 'Mountain State' with my husband, 15 month old daughter, and my 2 cats Sage and Ivan--and about 20 houseplants. The little one learned to walk and is now starting to speak.

I love Nature, and I like taking pictures. Nature is a huge inspiration. I like to write poetry, but it is something new to me so I am still exploring this-I'm stuck in generic rhyming mode. ; ) I love drawing and painting, and I'm starting to get back into it. I'm looking into taking some classes. I have a lot to learn, but learning is something I enjoy. I tend to flit from one thing to the next though, like a butterfly, so I need to focus on one thing at a time. I love children, and when I finish my student teaching, I will be an elementary teacher.

Journey within

This made me tear up...

A man found the cocoon of a butterfly.
One day a small opening appeared.
He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as
It struggled to force its body through that little hole.
Then it seemed to stop making any progress...
It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could
And it could go no further.
So the man decided to help the butterfly..
He took a pair of scissors and snipped off
The remaining bit of the cocoon.
The butterfly then emerged eas... read more

I go outside on my porch to have quick smoke. I ask myself 'why the hell did I start this again' as the bitter cold seeps into my every pour and chills me to the bone....

After I convince myself that quitting day is tomorrow, I look at my neighbors yard and notice that days after a snowfall, his yard is always completely untouched. White and still-- it gives me a silent and calm feeling. Not one footprint... just shadows from other buildings adding contrast to the glowing white. It's r... read more

Some say love- it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love- it is a razer
that leaves your soul to bleed.

Some say love- it is a hunger
an endless aching need.
I say love it is a flower
and you, it's only seed.

It's the heart afraid of breaking...
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken...
who cannot seem to give.
and the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live.

When the ni... read more
