Heaven on Earth

The best place on the planet. The stuff of my dreams. Rising fully a mile above the valley, Half Dome's breathtaking vistas repay the pilgrim's efforts a thousand fold.

What Amazes Me

Recently asked about Ms. Day, here is an except from my email reply:

Dorothy Day is one of my muses. She was a radical atheist anarchist communist pacifist in her early years and was politically active as an agitator for the poor and working classes in the 1920's. In the late '20's she had a spiritual awakening which led her to Caholicism. But she did not become any ordinary, pious or petty Catholic. a love supreme, a love supreme
a love supreme, a love supreme

Sex fingers toes
in the marketplace
near your father's church
in Hamlet, North Carolina—
witness to this love
in this calm fallow
of these minds,
there is no substitute for pain:
genitals gone or going,
seed burned out,
you tuck the roots in the earth,
turn back, and move

THE POOL PLAYERS
SEVEN AT THE GOLDEN SHOVEL

We real cool. We
Left school. We

Lurk late. We
Strike straight. We

Sing sin. We
Thin gin. We

Jazz June. We
Die soon.

The Holy Spirit stretches
above the sink, then digs His
hands into the soap, washes

first a bowl, then a glass. I
watch the O's and Yanks above
His head with the required

Hey, I can't see. He turns and
grins; then, He's off to laundry--
lots to clean in my old house.

I just can't keep up with Him,
so I stretch and turn away
to sleep in the fading light.
