My Blog
An explanation about my internet use to a fellow Triber...
Wed, March 12, 2008 - 10:23 AMHowever, I have been scolded often about posting lyrics, and felt guilty, and started crediting all song lyrics. Later, most or all of the musicians joined my friend's list on MySpace, and some actually befriended me to some extent. Some were always connected to me. When I explained this online recently, I got more and more grief and realized this was to be.
Now, I want to always credit my source of every image I clip and use, but feel I need to think long and hard about whether to pursue the people who clip and use my art.
My other option of removing most everything or leaving the 'net is too extreme at this point. I never defriend people either, but recently did with two here, as one was harrassing ladies I knew and the other changed his or her screen name to (an evil reference). In the past, I was always cool with that and almost anything, but began to get much grief regarding connections to others of that nature.

Unless the person created the picture or lyrics, that you have taken and reposted, I don't think they have a right to be upset. Just because they googled the picture first does not make it their picture.
Now if they created the pic/lyrics meaning they photoshopped them, or actually wrote the lyrics themselves. Then I think they have a right to be upset, as you would be stealing their creativity and trying to pass it as your own. I'm not certain which one you are doing. But I think it should stand to reason. If it's their stuff, give credit where it is due. If it is a simple googled picture. tell em to stick it where the sun don't shine!!! |

Thanks SN,
it seems to be many grey areas. What I mean, is I had posted lyrics and used photos with no credit, at times, not ever claiming or representing it's my own, and always offered information or links to the source. I always had limited internet time, so it was only logistics, and my reasoning was that if I spent more time honoring requests for sources or links, that I would rather spend less time attaching that info. I never conceived that no one hardly would ask, and I would get hostility and be spoken about as I was. Now that I offer source and link information, I still am getting some grief, being labeled as representing things as my own, and I am making the point in this blog, that I need to, if this is really a problem, to never post anything that isn't mine, to continue, and prosecute those who use my cartooning or writing, or just take everything mine and not mine, down... |
