Coolest dude I ever met, helped me edit fire performance images and gave me some criterias to better edit my images.
-1) make sure the images can be seen and accepted by fire performers as the best
-2) make sure the image can be recognized by fire photographers as the best
-3) when one has one and two cross audience one has the best image possible
-4) have a variety of angles from each shot try not to have the same prespective for everyone, esp for a group of fire performers in one place.
-5) try not to have blurs on the face, this is reduced by using a faster shutterspeed or a tripod. In some cases it is not the fault of the photograper rather the performer has to move to get the position they are trying to make with the trail. This will be hard with a complicated movement and long exposure.
-6) Watch out the background compared to the brightness of flames, if one is shooting with the sunset behind, it is better to face opposite where the sun is setting so the flames have a better contrast with the background otherwise the performer and the flames will be washed out.
-7) Be alert during the shoot, a performer may want to correct the mistake there and then rather than having bad muiltiple bad shots. This may hamper the photographer but it is job to check the exposure and the subject as the artist is performing. This is a hard thing to do because in the heat of the moment one has to be active in the correction process within a typical two minute burn.
-8) The shooting is a partnership between the artist and the photographer, one cannot be rigid on how anything is shot, because the situation may change depending on what one needs to be accomplish. If the photographer is using a tripod and the performer is still coming out blurred that is not the fault of the photographer, rather one has to figure out a movement for the performer in which their face is stationary during the shoot.
-9) Color correct the color temperature of flash to a warmer tone. Flash tend to be colder, that is why the performer does not like flash.
When one edits one has to remeber these points
For him I will be ever greatful...
