I adopted a kittie! Ebbie, short for Ebony was rescued from the streets by a great rescue organization named Saint Meows. I don't know how he got on the streets, but a very nice woman cared for him all winter by making a bed for him in her garage and feeding him or he wouldn't have made it. She loved him and wanted to keep him, but had two big dogs and didn't think he would be happy inside her house. Alice, the woman who runs Saint Meows rescued him and took him to the vet. He had to get neutered and get surgery on his leg (possibly shot at by a bb?). I met him and fell in love... despite having had such a tough winter he is a total sweetie and as friendly as can be. He just arrived last night and is already making himself quite at home and following me around everywhere. I am as thrilled as can be!

Ok, the mice have officially won. Thank you all for your support and suggestions and kind words... but I have had it!!!

The good news is I found a great apartment in Arlington, right near lots of buses and the Capitol theater. It has just been renovated so everything is new and most importantly, NO mice!!!

It's available now and I will be moving ASAP! I am really very sad to be leaving the North End, where I have lived for the last 8 years. There is a lot to miss here including the new yoga studio, great greengrocers, the espresso shops, the Modern bakery, the restaurants, all the neighborhood characters and the pool, omg, the pool.... ah well, all good things must come to an end and really I am looking forward to being in a place with trees and ponds and a bike path and I'm sure lots of awesome things that I have yet to discover.

My apartment is infested with mice! Help! I am losing my mind. Seriously, folks, I see them, I hear them... yes, I've set traps and yes the exterminator has come and they are still there. I can't relax in my apartment, I'm having trouble eating and sleeping, basically I'm a nervous wreck. I've started looking for a new place to live but there isn't a lot available right now and the rents are high... people are telling me to get another cat... I don't know if I'm ready. I hate to get another cat under duress but then again, moving under duress is not too great either. Any thoughts, tribe friends?

So last summer me and Amanda (Shedonist) were really bummed that we weren't going to Burning Man and we made a pact that we would go this year... and we are! We are flying out to Las Vegas on Saturday night, picking up an RV and driving 9 hours through the Nevada desert for our virgin burn. Yippee-yaya!

I was really looking forward to getting my virgin spanking on arrival but apparently that's not being done anymore.... why not???? We will also have our very own honorary dirty girl (who really isn't a girl at all), Skylar, who I am sure will help me out on the spanking front.

Our oasis will be located somewhere around 4:30 and Landfill... look for the Dirty Girls RV banner flying from our RV. There's bound to be libations, debauchery, dirty girls, and most likely lots of silliness and fun, so come on out and visit!

I will have hoop materials, including lots of pretty sparkly tape, for gifting, making and learning how to hoop! I am also going to be part of the Fire Conclave, providing Fire Safety for my Fire Family.

Did I say how excited I am? WOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I love birthdays, I love celebrating them, celebrating my life, and looking forward to all the great things still to come. The last year has been incredible and this year promises to be even better. I love celebrating my friends birthdays too and I'm looking forward to all of the celebrations going on this weekend! Woo-hoo!

Today I graduated from Integrative Nutrition in New York City and I am now a certified Health Counselor. Integrative Nutrition is really one amazing school and I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to go there. I've also applied to be in the 2nd year Immersion program, which means that I will be a health counselor for next year's students. I decided that I want to stay connected to the school, I want to take my business and counseling skills to the next level and I want to give back some of what I got this year. I had to sign up 8 clients in 6 month programs to qualify and I did it, thanks in large part to friends who have been so amazingly supportive. Thank you!!!

I really feel like I have undergone a huge personal transformation in the past year. Yes, I am eating healthier, yes I am cooking more, but what really rocks my world is that I now feel like I am in control of my life, I am confident that I can do whatever I set out to do, I am holding the reins of my life, and the skies the limit... watch out world!

7 days of Lemonade (The Master Cleanse), 2 days of fresh orange juice and tonight for dinner... veggie soup! Om my gosh, I never knew that veggie soup could taste so delicious! I feel like I am eating for the first time... enjoying the smell, the taste, even chewing is magnificent!

I went on this cleanse to detox my body, but actually it is my mind that feels most detoxified. I've had a lot of time over the past week without the distractions of cooking or eating to focus on what's important and be present. I feel clear, calm, and centered... I've reconnected with my spiritual self and really feel renewed in a way that I didn't expect.

After the umpteenth person wondering where I've been, asking if I'm coming out, wondering if I'd be interested in joining you for _____, I just want to say to all of you...
Thank you! I'm so glad that you're thinking of me and you miss me and you want to see me!!!

Here's the deal: I am one busy girl these days. On top of my part-time office job and shiatsu business, I am going to school at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City (the picture is at school with my two favorite lunch buddies from DC). This fall I got 3 colds in 3 months, and I realized that I was not taking good enough care of myself. I decided that I was going to get healthy and right now that means balancing my insane schedule with lots of sleep, restorative chillin' and saying no to lots of social engagements. I am gearing up to be a health and wellness counselor, have a second business office and truly be my own boss. I am creating my future right now folks, and you know what, it looks pretty damn sweet. To get there, I have to put the work in and walk the talk which means I'm going to be scarce for the next few months or so...

But you know what? I'm sure I will see you soon, and when I do I'm going to be psyched!!!

It really pays to have zero expectations. I'm so glad that I went despite my initial trepidations and the awful weather forecast. I shared a car rental with Tanya and Nicole and ended up having the best time at Wildfire. Highlights for me were holing up in Shangri La (my tent) w/Tanya & Nicole drinking wine during the downpour, snuggling under my down comforter, the many naked swims in the lake and sunbathing sessions on the float, drumming for the amazing fire performers on Saturday night, getting to know old friends better and meeting so many wonderful new people. I am so impressed with not only the amazing skills of this community but also the openness, respect and attitude of teamwork that prevailed over the weekend. I didn't light up a fire hoop this weekend, but I got out there with my drum and I finally got the elbow to elbow behind the back hoop trick I've been working on forever... it really was a sweet way to end the summer and I'm already looking forward to spring Wildfire!

Yesterday I went to New York city to check out the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, a holistic nutrition school (http://www.integrativenutrition.com). Wow! This school encompasses everything that I've been thinking, reading, and studying on my own for years. It was amazing to be in a room with so many people who think in similar ways about health and nutrition. The school teaches and integrates all of the nutritional theories in a way that allows you to counsel and tailor individual health plans for people. It's about a lot more than just nutrition, it's about the whole person, and how to help people live better in the modern world.

I have been looking for another career path to replace my office job, one that would be complementary to my shiatsu business, and it looks like I've finally found it. I will be going down to NYC 10 weekends and in June I will be certified to be a Health Counselor.

As I was leaving the building with the 10lbs. of books that they give you upon enrolling, a woman asked me if I had enrolled. When I excitedly said yes, she said that she really wanted to, but just didn't have the money. I told her that I had looked at the program last year and couldn't afford it, but this year all the pieces had fallen into place and I could. Her face brightened up and she said she would work towards doing it next year. I felt so happy that i've cleaned up my debts and saved enough money to have choices and options. I remember how shitty it felt not to have those choices and to feel stuck... keep dancing and living and breathing.... ahhhh.... yep, life is grand.

I went to WildFire this past weekend and what an experience it was! Lots of fun with friendly people, great food, learned lots of new stuff and.... I FIRE HOOPED!!!! YAY!!!! I had to work up my courage and I was definitely nervous, but it was so exhilirating. Slay those fear dragons!

In the Stupid and "Nope Actiongirrl is not actually Supernatural" category of things, I jumped off a very high platform into a lake on a rope swing and OUCH!!! Got a huge unbelievably painful rope burn across the back of my leg/knee. Everyone was asking me, "wasn't it fun???" Um no, the pain sorta took away the fun part. My leg is looking real pretty for the start of summertime fun (groan) and if I"m not my usual foolish dancing self on Wednesday that's why :((

Which brings me to a reminder.... my 36th birthday is tomorrow (June 13) and I am celebrating it on Wednesday June 14 at the Enormous Room with the oh so wonderful Copal. The party begins at 9pm with dj beats from Ammon EP and Copal will take the stage at 11pm. Come early, come late.... creative/fun/sexy attire encouraged... silliness and hugs are mandatory! I can't wait to see all you beautiful lovely people!

So I am flipping through Stuff at Night's Gay Issue on the T, skimming through the article Nightlife Now and Then when I spot a familiar face....
Jesus, that's me.... 15 years ago with my friend Beth at Axis!!! Holy shit!

A few questions occur to me,
Where oh where did this picture come from?
Why do they think we're lesbians (um, no)?
Whatever happened to Beth (haven't seen her in 15 years)?

I just returned from a week at the Sivananda ashram on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. 4 days of Krishna Das, 7 days of meditation, chanting, ocean swims, bounteous healthy vegetarian food and 4 hours of yoga. I feel healthy, relaxed, strong and limber. Chanting with Krishna Das opens my heart so wide, I feel the love of the universe so strongly and the interconnectedness of all beings. Yummy yummy stuff. The challenge before me now is integrating this intense spiritual experience back into my daily life. I came back to see quite clearly that a few important things were being neglected. Time to dust off the altars and get up in the morning for yoga and meditation. Om shanti shanti shanti. Om peace peace peace.

Extreme Flirting 101

Ok, so this is not exactly a newsflash to most of my friends, but I realized today that my flirtatiousness has gotten a bit out of control! We stopped at a highway rest stop convenience store on the way back from Shedonist's lovely Halloween bash to get water and snacks and I just couldn't help myself from randomly flirting with a guy while I was deciding what kind of ice cream I should buy.... now make no mistake, this was heavy-duty flirting, to the point where the guy left the store and then returned, offering to buy my ice cream for me. I said "no" (with a smile of course)... and did my fairy-hustle on up to the register, slid into line next to my friend Harlan who was verrry amused by my antics (yes we are now officially friends nosie-nosies) and then zipped on out of the store. Now the funny part here is that I didn't find him the least bit attractive.... just wanted to make his day!

hee-hee

I'm so excited, I can finally hoop! I joined my friend Jose and his hooping friends for some hooping fun at Cambridge Commons in Harvard Square. I had really low expectations for myself, since the last time I tried I was a complete hooping retard. I finally got it! After a couple of hours of hooping, we went to Border Cafe [for margaritas of course]. While we waited for a table we hooped some more in the alley next to Border. There were lots of bystanders and we had extra hoops so more joined in... it was a regular hoop happening.

OK, I'm not doing fancy tricks yet or anything but I can keep that hoop going with just a small movement from my hip. It's gotta be good for my abs and it is so much fun - YAY!

Manhole explosions in the North End!

The last two days have been pretty stressful as there have been manhole explosions in the street right in front of my apartment building! Wednesday night I had just gotten home and thought something was a little funny as all of the lights were flickering. Then there was an explosion which rocked the building, then lots of fire engine sirens. I went up to the roof to see what was going on and there was a wall of acrid smoke. I looked over the edge of the roof (what, am I crazy??) and there was smoke and fire shooting out of the manhole right below with firemen everywhere running around trying to put it out with big hoses. No-one in my apartment building knew what to do. Stay inside. or run outside past the fire. We were scared of getting stuck in the building (only one exit -the front door) so we ended up making a run for it (with the cat in the cat carrier) down the street to safety. After about an hour on the street, the firemen had put out the fire, cleaned up the glass from broken windows, and it seemed safe to go back inside.

All day Thursday I felt a bit spacy and frazzled. I got home at 7pm, to take a nap and get ready to go out and once again I am greeted by fire engines, yellow caution tape and news trucks. I talk to some friendly policemen who said there were MORE manhole explosions, no power, and who knows how long it will be until I can get back inside my apartment building.

Harlan finally found me in the N.End (get a cell phone dude), I call my lovely friends Kal and Rhonda (thank you, thank you!), and we go over their house to shower and get ready for a new monthly fetish night at Axis (Endorphin). They provide me with wonderful hospitality for my completely frazzled self: a stiff drink (very important), shoes and big hugs. We get ourselves together and head out. The club was fun, not a lot of people but it is a new night, lots of play spaces, people playing, and a nice vibe. SINdy met up with us too, looking fabulous in her light-up shoes. Just being with my friends (and some more stiff drinks) improved my mood considerably.

I am back home today and while there are still a lot of Nstar trucks, cables and news trucks all over the place, I have my fingers crossed that there won't be any more explosions! I am off to the pool to do nothing for the rest of the day. I am looking forward to dancing my ass off at Psyforia tonight.

Falcon Ridge Folk Festival

I spent the weekend at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY which is in the Berkshires on the border of Massachusetts. It's a big festival, attracting 20,000 folkies of all ages and types. What a fun time! I met my mom and Andrea there and we all camped together. I got a ride with Kristie, who loves to contradance. She will probably never give me a ride anywhere again because I talked her into staying for Ani DeFranco which means it took us a long time to leave the festival and we got home way past her bedtime (not mine - but I can't expect everyone to be an actiongirl!). It was worth it though, Ani did an awesome set. I got to see a lot of awesome musicians including Dar Williams, Acoustic Hot Tuna, Vance Gilbert, Eddie from Ohio and a great jam band Railroad Earth.

I also did a bit of contra dancing. It's a little bit like square dancing, but a lot more fun. Lots of turns and changing partners and getting dizzy from turning so much.

The most exciting thing that happened was a thunder & lightning storm with >50mph winds that broke one of my tent poles, ripped the rain fly, and just about destroyed Andrea's EZ-up screen tent! My tent actually became 2-dimensional for a period of time. Me and Andrea were holding onto our tents for dear life in the pouring rain laughing hysterically (what else can you do?). My mom sat in the car not taking any chances with the lightning. Afterwards we drank a bottle of wine and felt very very lucky that everything stayed dry in the tents!

I spent July 4th weekend visiting mom and friends on the Eastern end of Long Island... the weather was awesome and we had a glorious time. Lots of swimming with some kayaking, tennis, and a bit of debauchery thrown in. I got to hang out with one of my oldest friends (32 years!!!) and splash around in the water with her kids. On July 3 I got the fiery benefits of 2 alpha males competing to build the best bonfire. Lots of marshmallows were roasted and eaten. I don't think anything makes me happier than sand between my toes and salt water up my nose. The only thing I missed out on were fireworks until I got back to the North End -right in front of my door some knuckleheads were lighting up some good ones.

Should I be a Nielsen home?

ok, this really cracks me up. As any of my friends can tell you I almost never watch TV. In fact, even if I wanted to, I can only get one station in on my TV since I'm too cheap to pay for cable. Somehow, I was randomly selected to be a Nielsen TV ratings household. According to the info that they gave me, it seems that you can make money watching, or apparently, not watching TV:

"Participation in the Nielsen TV ratings requires no extra time than you regularly spend watching TV. In fact, we ask that you continue to watch, or not watch, TV as you normally do."

bwahahahahaaa....
