To the Soon-Lost Friend:
The capriciousness of how I feel should not

To Odysseus:
I like to be with people and I like
To be alone. And sometimes I need friends
Around, and sometimes must be on my own,
To muse on life in silence. It depends
On how I feel, of course, and though I do
Delight in dearly treasured friends and joy
In moments spent with them, 'tis also true
That excess, even of good things, must cloy.
Sweet friends, I love my time with them and, yes,
My time alone as well. But now I find
"Alone," has changed; that quite loveliness
Is not when thoughts are lone but intertwined.
In changing shades of silence, this is true:
The quiet loses beauty save with you.
