books i'm reading that i love

All I do is read these days. So here are books I’ve decided I can’t live without:

How the Pro-Choice Movement Saved America
This woman's thesis is that the pro life movement does NOT want fewer abortions, were that so they would back comprehensive sex education and easy access to birth control, including Plan B. Instead they want to control women's sexuality, thus creating a more patriarchal world. She is very clear and her arguments are good, but it's F-ing depressing to know this

Harmful to Minors by Judith Levine
This woman believes kids and teenagers are sexual beings and have a right to explore their bodies, have pleasure and have information that allows them to protect themselves. I agree completely, and did before i read this book, but it's nice to have some research that backs up my position and some resources to follow up on as my children friends become adolecents whose parents might be more than a little wary of giving a sex talk.

The Visitor by Sheri S. Tepper
Sherri like to write her science fiction without any confusion about her political and moral stance. She outright says that the right wing conservative nuts worship the devil and that if we're not carful god's gonna come kick some ass. She also wrote The Family Tree in which the tree's are like "Fuck You Suburbia, we're takin' over" or The Gate to Women's Country were we work on breeding out the assholes. Sherri is definatly in my top 5 favorite authors.

Popco by Scarlett Thomas
Scarlett is vegan and this book is well written and full of her anti corporate propaganda rants. It's also got stuff about math, cryptology, homeopathy and how to take over the world. I didn’t want it to end.

The Ruby in the Smoke, The Shadow in the North, and The Tiger in the Well all by Philip Pullman.
These books are about a young woman in the late 1800s who doesn’t conform to society's expectations, she's a feminist, a financial consultant with her own firm and she has a child out of wedlock!! I love her because she'd brave and strong and shoots the bad guys. She also solves mysteries, questions societies morals, and is totally amazing.

The Sundering by Jaqueline Carey
These are two books, Banewreaker and Godslayer, which are like Lord of the Rings without all the black and white, good vs. evil propaganda. Carey is all about the shades of grey and has the ability to write some "bad guys" who we don't hate and some "good guys" that we might.

about me
I am a women's studies major, which means i've got a whole buch of radical ideals but still work as a wage slave. I chose that major cause i like the ladies and because i feel that if i got a useful degree i would have to be a useful member of society, which i'm just not prepared to do.
I work in a health food store and go out with the girls and hang out with my partner and generally enjoy myself.
I got married a year ago, which was fun. Being married is pretty cool, becuase now when we stay at our parents house we can sleep in the same bed. WOO HOO!!!

notes

I left my lame ass trader joes job and now work at Rainbow grocery, a worker owned commie haven of vegetarian foods an hippie medicines. My benefits rule, my co-workers rule and i like the mindlessness and organizational skills needed to stock groceries.

So it's true, i no longer live in an RV or keep my stuff far away in a storage unit, instead all my books are on my shelves and they surround me night and day. Also, i have a real bed i get to sleep in that is big enough for my husband and i both. I can't really claim to have a kitchen, but i have something kitchen like where i can keep my food on shelves, and there is a two burner stove and a little tiny sink which is almost big enough to do dishes. Best of all though, i am a 15 minute drive... read more

You move and put into storage one box of OK tea and keep with you all the essential teas.
You also keep with you your favoirite ceramic mug while you counch surf.
When you move from your couch surfing place into an RV, you bring your tea and start to carry it in a water proof bag that is easy to move around.
That way when you house sit or go on overnight trips, you can bring your tea with you.
Also, when you continue to buy new tea, even though there is tea at people's houses and coffee ... read more

Well, i live in an RV. It's interior is all brown and it is VERY cold inside an RV in december. I live there so i can snuggle my husband and so that we can commute to SF together, because i work at stupid trader joes right now. the purpose of this job is to get me out of Windsor and make me miserable so that i will find another job. I've worked there for two days and it's already working.

While i should be careful about complaining about the lovely family that pays me to look after my amazing grandmother, do the dishes and read all the time, i cannot help it because it just kinda sucks. I'm ready to move back in with my lovely husband and have my own books and my own pots and pans and my own couch. I am ready. I don't even have anything else to post because my life is so boring.
