Invoking the Dark Goddess through Bellydancewith Aepril Schaile
Medusa, Kali, Hecate, Circe, Persephone, Lilith, Morrigan: goddeses and mythical archetypes; "witch" energy, the ability to shape-shift, to hex *and* to heal. Using moving meditation and a combination of improvisation and choreography, we will evoke the Dark Feminine within us to speak through the serpentine sorcery of bellydance. You will come away with a fresh sense of authenticity, power and grace in your dance, connecting to ancient/ timeless energies and becoming adept at casting any audience under your spell. Open to advanced beginners and beyond, to women and men.

Bellydance Basics: Shimmying Hips with a Dark Twist:
(beginner class)Learn the elegant, sensual, and sacred art of Bellydance! Get in shape, develop more confidence, and increase your mystique while learning basic Bellydance vocabulary with an emphasis on dramatic expression, and with a darker feel. We will also touch upon the history, drama, and costuming of an emerging dance form, Gothic Bellydance. No prior experience necessary! 10 Weeks, 10 Thurs 6-7pm.
Mixed Levels Bellydance: Raqs Dramatique:
This class will go further into the dramatic, theatrical and sacred aspects of bellydance, with a darker flavor. We will further develop our movement vocabulary while also working with story, mood, myth, and meaning. A silk veil is reuqired by the second class (veils available for purchse in class). Students must have had at least two prior (6 week minimum) sessions of bellydance to take this class. Please email Aepril to find out if this class is right for you. 10 weeks, no drop-ins after 9/11/08 for this class unless pre-arranged with Aepril.) Thurs 7:15-8:15pm.
