about me
a.k.a. "Flor De Luna", a house dancer at India 4 U and Tanjia Moroccan restaurants. Studied bellydance with Tatseena for 6 years and danced in her troupe Good Vibrations, and also received private coaching from Najia the first four years. Currently studying at SSSD, and as of Apr 08 the newest member of Suhaila's Repetoire Ensemble! I'm interested in BOTH Suhaila's and Jamila's methods, since I am of the dance philosophy that "real belly dancers" always a) use finger cymbals, and b) use the belly. Other favorite props include 4-yard double veil and large Spanish fans known as "Pericones" I like to incorporate into Latino/"Gypsy" fusion style. Additional dance background: decade of Mexican Folklorico under Mariano Tapia, a bit of Flamenco and three years of jazz, modern and Afro-Haitian in college. Chose the dance name Flor De Luna in honor of Carlos Santana, the living muse who has inspired me artistically since I was a child. His "Moonflower" album, along with the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, were my favorite records in high school.

Re: First timer.. (in The Real Suhaila) All of my "Sisters in Sweat" have posted great advice!

Sneeze disaster New Year's Eve (in Bellydance Catastrophies) New Year's eve last year!

Ten minutes before I'm to dance the first of two sold-out 45 minute shows at one of my regular restaurant gigs, I'm in the dressing room about to drape my veil around my costume. I feel my nose start to run, so I tu... read more
