~an atrocity in the name of "art"...I think I'm going to be sick....(a repost from Richard Grossman):
Tue, April 8, 2008 - 3:14 PMA IN 2007 GUILLERMO VARGAS HABACUC, A FAKE ARTIST, TOOK AN ABANDONNED DOG AND TIED HIM WITH A SHORT ROPE TO THE WALL OF AN ART GALLERY, LEAVING THE DOG TO DIE A SLOW DEATH WITHOUT ANY FOOD OR WATER, CALLING THAT AN “ARTISTIC EXHIBIT”.
FOR DAYS, THE AUTHORS OF THIS HORRIBLE CRUELTY, AND THE VISITORS TO THE GALLERY WATCHED PASSIVELY THE AGONY OF THIS POOR ANIMAL, UNTIL THE DOG FINALLY DIED OF HUNGER AND THIRST, AFTER BEING THE VICTIM OF A SENSELESS, PAINFULL AND AGONIZING DEATH.
AS UNTHINKABLE AS THIS IS, IT IS UNFORTUNATELY NOT OVER. THE PRESTIGIOUS “BIENNALE CENTROAMERICANA DI ARTE” DECIDED THAT THE BESTIALITY THIS INDIVIDUAL HAD JUST COMMITED WAS INDEED ART, AND THAT GUILLERMO VARGAS HABACUC HAD BEEN INVITED TO REPEAT HIS CRUEL “DISPLAY” AT THE NEXT BIENNALE 2008.
PLEASE ACT!!!! PREVENT THE NEXT EXHIBIT. EVERY SIGNATURE COUNTS!!!

May not be what it seems. May be, but according to Snopes, there are reports that the dog was fed and watered at night: www.snopes.com/critters/c.../vargas.asp

A statement from the asshole
INFORMATION ABOUT EXHIBIT
What he says on his blog (translated) Located Here According to I knew the dog died on the following day by lack of food. During the inauguration I knew that the dog was persecuted in the evening between the houses of aluminum and cardboard of a district of Managua with santo name who Habacuc that could not need at the moment. 5 children of whom they helped in the capture received 10 bonds of crdobas by their collaboration. During the exhibition some people requested the freedom of the small dog, to which he artist rehuso. The name of the dog was (it was) Natividad, and I let myself to him die of at sight hunger of all, as if the death of a poor dog was a shameless mediatic show in which nobody does nothing else that to applaud or to watch disturbed. Definitively we are what leimos: pure croquetas. In the place that the dog was exposed single it has left a metal cable and a cord. The dog was extremely ill, renqueaba and it did not want to eat anyway, so in natural surroundings it had died anyway; but thus they are all the poor dogs: sooner or later they die or they die them. |

Why Sign a Petition ?
Just let me loose, and I will serve retribution for this poor animal.
my personal message to this sick Individual is this......... ( yeah come fucking arrest me ) for your actions, the gods of war will watch you rot in hell, the Valkyries will wail in your ears, day and night, your mind will never rest nor find peace. Your heart will be torn out and fed to a dog, so the animal may steal your power for its own existence. You are scum, nothing more, nothing less. A sick Individual who will burn in the fires of Guede forevermore. Your death will be slow and painful, torment from begining to end, and if mine is to be the same for saying so, then so be it, it would be worth every moment to avenge this Dog. Fuck you scumbag |

Also I would forward this to all animal rights groups, they will give him hell for this,
no less than he deserves, a Demon not a man at all. |

Your soul would have to be sick to conceive of this and to collaborate in it. And by collaborating in it, I think you could actually kill your own spirit. It's the very opposite situation that should be considered art -- find someone in trouble, post it online as a performance art event, encourage people to do whatever specific thing they can think of to help the being, rescue them. Film it all of course, that might be enough of a motivation for people to act out of light instead of crawl further into dark.

I understand the horror people feel in response to this, but I cannot help but to recognize this exhibit as a metaphor for what we all do, day in and day out, reading news about people or the planet dying, and then we go on about our day feeling helpless or informed or indifferent. Someone makes money producing that news, exploiting someone else's suffering, much as this "artist" exploits a sick and dying dog to make a statement and a name for himself. It does create a most uncomfortable conundrum, trying to balance the dignity of the suffering with the desire to inform others of a hidden facet of reality. Paradoxically, I cannot fully condone this "art", nor can I fully condemn the news media. |

but when we read about these events far away from us, there is little we can do. When it's happening right in front of us, to a person or to an animal, it's meant for us to take action. To do something. I would have had that dog out of there within 5 minutes, even if only to have him put to sleep at the nearest vet. I've done it before (when witnessing cruelty right in front of me) and would never hesitate to do it again. I think it used to be hardwired in people to rush to help when another person was in a jam in front of them -- but far fewer would respond to an animal. Lately, though, it's true -- the wiring seems to have gone seriously awry.

Anyone that just witnessed this deserves to be reincarnated as a Dog... A being of unconditional love and receive no love at all... Maybe they will learn...

The premise of this foolishness is not art but rather just to be mean. The difference? There's not enough of one and too much of the other. This man is not an artist. This man is a bore... a common little bore.
