Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor and stoic philosopher, said:

"Just as the sand-dunes,

Having not read much of his writings I have no context into which to place this sentiment. However, it resonated for me very powerfully, as it made me reflect upon actions of the past, and how they affect my life today.

Five years ago yesterday, my father died; he was 67. It was expected but not, at the same time.

Expected, because he lived his life full-bore; he did what he wanted to do, the way he wanted to do it, regardless of popular opinion and doctor’s advice.
