about me
I am resourceful, thorough and ebullient. I'm a Minnesotan through and through: cold-hardy and warm-hearted...friendly to the core; I like to talk about the weather. In my professional life, I have worked with diverse (and sometimes adversarial) nonprofit, business and government stakeholders to build innovative partnerships to develop solutions to Minnesota’s environmental problems. Collaboration is my passion. At this time, I choose to be an at-home parent to my fascinatingly quirky young son. I am using Enki Education to help him craft his life journey. Together with my husband, I sail Lake Superior. We are about to become boat-builders with a four-year plan to leave our current habitat and become world cruisers. Our hope is to explore the world while living simply, unencumbered by material possessions, and to instill in our son an appreciation of the globe's diverse cultural and natural wonder. I love to be outdoors; I feel most at home on (or in) water, on forest floor, or among snow. I am an endurance person. I am deliberate; I prefer to think things through and proceed with vision. I have a little black box that cooks my food on sunny days, but in general, I don't believe in little black boxes. I am experimenting with raw and living cuisine. I buy my family's food almost exclusively at co-ops, except in the summer, when I get most of my produce from my CSA farmer. I am a lifelong learner; I attend lectures and conferences for fun, and I frequent my local libraries. I am an enthusiastic people-lover. I glimpse a sparkle of connectedness radiating from everyone; the concept of Ubuntu resonates deeply within me.

My Blog

I brew kombucha.

I transfered my very first batch to sealed bottles today. I received the reliably lovely mother from my friend Jen M. last Thursday and started brewing that night. I tested when we returned to town yesterday, and again today, and could detect no difference. Tasted like non-fizzy kombucha to me. I divided the tea between two 64-oz wire/seal jars from Ikea and added a pinch of sugar to each. I Vita-mixed about 8.5 oz fresh strawberries together with about 6 oz kiwi with skin... read more

A simple wavy rectangle around my lamp-post, about 6-ft by 6-ft, maybe 8x8. Dug up by hand with a pointy shovel. Mixed in some compost from last year and some peat moss. Re-graded. Bordered with a second-hand wooden edging that I repaired myself with a hammer and staple gun. Moved the peonies (that have only bloomed once in the ten years we've lived here) from the backyard, planted them right next to the lamp post, and tied up with a pretty green ribbon. Planted 32 plugs of moss ... read more
