The City Repair Project announces the 9th Annual Village Building Convergence (VBC9) taking place across Portland from June 5 - June 14, 2009. This year’s VBC (or Village Building Convergence) theme – Momentum: Powered by the People – was chosen to reflect the collaborative energy and creative forces that citizens can build together. We hope to generate momentum to strengthen the community voice throughout Portland and beyond. We are celebrating the ninth year of the VBC, which will promote neighborhood interaction to facilitate sustainable communities. Each year, the VBC is held to promote human-scale community action. Over 25 sites; institutions, schools, and neighborhoods, have been organizing community-based projects for neighborhood improvement, which will be built during VBC9. This year’s Village Building Convergence projects will include a water catchment system, intersection paintings, cob benches, outdoor classroom installation, native plant gardening, asphalt removal and more! As well as site projects, the VBC includes speakers, live music, workshops, and delicious meals. The VBC is excited to be collaborating with the New Day School for this year’s event. The VBC will be hosting evening events at the New Day School’s annex, Jagrti, which is located at 1847 SE Clinton Street, Portland, OR 97202. Speakers this year include Starhawk, global justice activist; Robert Laporte, natural house building pioneer, and Larry Santoyo, internationally known urban permaculture designer. VBC9 is also preparing an amazing music lineup for the evenings Please visit www.cityrepair.org/vbc for the full ten-day evening event schedule. The City Repair Project is an organized group action that educates and inspires communities and individuals to creatively transform the places where they live. The City Repair Project facilitates artistic and ecologically-oriented placemaking through projects that honor the interconnection of human communities and the natural world. The Village Building Convergence is primarily planned, designed, organized, built and run by volunteers, and on a minimal budget. Sponsors of this year’s VBC include The Larson Legacy and KBOO Radio. Please help us keep this event community-supported by spreading the word, donating, or volunteering. For additional information on volunteering, please contact Caitlin Blood at vbcvolunteer@cityrepair.org. For media and general inquiries, please contact Meghan Crane vbcpublicity@cityrepair.org or 503-505-4497. www.cityrepair.org/vbc

In two weeks, I will be moving to Geer Crest Farm in Silverton, OR to apprentice as an organic goat dairy manager!! Come and visit me!! The farm raises sheep for wool that gets spun by a local women-run organic spinnery, as well as chickens and ducks for eggs, and goats for milk. We current sell our products in a buying club in Portland, where members alternately pickup at the farm twice a week (which amounts to only once or twice a season that you'd pick up) as well as the Silverton Farmers Market. Right now is a transitional period as the farm incorporates several new aspects and programs, which is very exciting to be coming on board. For the first time, we are holding weeklong summer camps (age 8-12). Simultaneously, we are learning and researching the necessary steps to become biodynamic (Waldorf and biodynamic agriculture have the same founder). I will be spearheading the development of new goat dairy products, such as cheeses and goat milk soap. I will also be responsible for early morning milkings, as well as development of yoga and spiritual retreats on the farm!! Please let me know if you are interested in joining the product buying club (raw goat and cow milk, yogurt, frozen marionberries, and eggs are currently being offered...more to come!). Also if you would like information regarding the summer camp. I am thinking about also holding a yoga kids camp. And I am definitely hosting a weekend yoga retreat during the August Full Moon. Also, we need more workers. We are currently looking for some part-time farm interns. We also hold community work parties on the first Saturday of each month. Careful though, you won't want to leave (happened to me)! Hope this finds each of you healthy and blissed on spring earth lovin!! Sat nam, Alana, aka Ravi Nam aka Llama aka Grasshopper
