<div>
Action: APRIL 30, 2008

Coming all the way from the Amazon rainforest of Peru, five Achuar elders
are traveling to Los Angeles to defend their case, their rights and their
land against multinational oil supergiant OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM in order to
uphold environmental protection laws that were never enforced during 30
years of OXY’s drilling for oil in Achuar territory.

OXY left a drastic legacy of major environmental pollution that threatens
the Achuar and their very survival. OXY dumped 850,000 barrels of oil
waste per DAY into the Achuar’s Corrientes River and dug unlined waste
pits numbering in the thousands across their tribal lands over a span of
30 years.

The Achuar come to LA in late April to face off in a respectful but
emphatic way with Occidental Petroleum. WE can help pave the way for them
with a very important ACTION planned by Amazon Watch APRIL 30 at 12 NOON
at OXY Headquarters.

WE NEED YOUR HELP performing a theatrical action with Amazon Watch in
front of and surrounding OXY’s world headquarters building– right here in
L.A. at Wilshire &amp; Westwood. We’ll be dressing in HazMat suits telling
OXY to “Clean Up” the Amazon – demonstrating visual cues by scrubbing
their building with mops, brushes and brooms. It will be fun and comedic
with a very clear and direct message.

Daryl Hannah will join us and we're aiming for lots of press to come cover
the action – that’s why we need YOUR help in sending OXY a strong message.

We’re looking to gather 300 people to surround the OXY building on APRIL 30.
Any outsourcing to other active groups would be greatly appreciated and
encouraged. We’ll supply the HazMat suits beforehand.

Please won’t you come and join with your friends to help protect the
Amazon Rainforest and its Native People? The Achuar need us now.

We expect the OXY “CLEAN UP THE AMAZON” Action April 30 to last from
approximately 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Please forward this email to your LISTS far and wide. Contact Leslie
Morava with Amazon Watch or email to volunteer. You can also act as an
Action Captain by gathering a group of your friends together!

<div>MAYOR NEWSOM LAUNCHES SFGREASECYCLE – THE NATION’S FIRST CITYWIDE
PROGRAM THAT COLLECTS WASTE GREASE TO CREATE BIOFUEL FOR MUNICIPAL FLEET

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – In an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,
combat climate change and curb the growing number of clogged sewers
plaguing City residents and businesses, Mayor Gavin Newsom today
launched an innovative solution to collect fats, oil and grease (FOG)
free of charge from City restaurants and turn them into biofuel for
City-owned vehicles. SFGreasecycle is the nation’s first citywide
program to turn FOG into fuel for municipal fleets and will save
residents and businesses money, unclog City sewers, and reduce
greenhouse gas emissions. The first SFGreasecycle restaurant waste
grease pickup occurred today at Puccini and Pinetti in Union Square.

"San Francisco’s entrepreneurial and environmental spirit is once
again front and center with our innovative biodiesel creation
program," said Mayor Newsom. "Our program will serve as a model for
cities throughout the world who aim to transform their grease waste
into useable, sustainable energy."

SFGreasecycle is a program that was developed by the San Francisco
Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) as a sustainable alternative to
combat sewer blockages caused in part by excess cooking oils and fats
discharged down drains from restaurants and homes. Each year, the
SFPUC estimates that 50% of sewer emergency calls are related to
backups caused by grease blockages costing their ratepayers $3.5
million a year in repairs.

"We’re taking a serious City problem and using the best available
technology to save our ratepayers’ money and do something good for
the environment," said SFPUC General Manager Susan Leal. "For every 5
gallons of grease we collect and keep out of our sewers, we displace
5 gallons of petroleum diesel. That is a net 100 pound reduction in
carbon emission."

San Francisco, a national leader in initiatives to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions, has a City fleet of more than 1600 diesel vehicles
being retrofitted to accept the new biofuel source. In 2006, Mayor
Newsom signed an executive directive mandating that the entire city
fleet be converted by December 31, 2007. The City is currently on
pace to meet that goal. Initially, biodiesel for the City fleet will
be purchased through an existing city contract, with the future plan
to procure all biodiesel generated from San Francisco’s restaurant
waste oil stream.

Recycled FOG from San Francisco restaurants is estimated to generate
1.5 million gallons of biofuel each year. 59 restaurants have already
signed up for the SFGreasecycle program before its launch with more
expressing interest every day.

"The SFPUC’s SFGreasecycle program provides an immediate financial
benefit to one of San Francisco’s most important economic engines –
the restaurant and food service establishment industry," said Golden
Gate Restaurant Association President Kevin Westlye. "I encourage all
restaurants and food service establishments to sign up for the program."

Mayor Newsom and the SFPUC also announced that this Thanksgiving,
residents can drop-off their holiday waste cooking oil for conversion
to biodiesel for the City fleet at Costco, located at 450 10th
Street. The Costco drop-off location will be open from November 23-26
during their normal operating hours of Friday, 9-8:30pm; Saturday,
9:30-7:00pm; Sunday, 10-6pm; and Monday, 11-8:30pm.

waste oil collection service, please call (415) 695-7366 or visit

<div>Hi,

Have you seen the news?

After decades of brutal dictatorship, the people of Burma are rising. In the past few days, hundreds of thousands of peaceful protesters, led by Buddhist monks, have flooded the streets of Rangoon. But yesterday, the military started shooting monks and journalists.

This is a true emergency. Avaaz.org and MoveOn.org have launched a petition demanding Burmese generals negotiate rather than crush the demonstrators. They're focused on getting United Nations Security Council members--particularly China's Hu Jintao--to intervene. Thousands of people from all over the world are adding their names every hour -- will you sign? Click here:

Pass it on! Thanks!!</div>

If you've never been to burning man, here's your chance to see what it's all about. If you have been or are depressed you aren't going, here's your chance to experience those feelings :)

A full screening of the film, a panel including the director and cast (god help us). Post screening hang out at Tokyo Table (50 N. La Cienga) around the corner from theater. $5 Sake martinis with ticket stub.

The documentary chronicles a group of friends as they head off to one of the largest and mysterious social experiments in the world. Every year for one week 40,000 people meet in northern Nevada to create a city out of empty desert. After that week, Black Rock City (or "the playa") disappears without a trace including its zip code, newspaper, radio stations, and airport. The rules are simple: No commerce, bring what you need to survive, leave no trace, participants only, and no spectators. Take a journey into a world of art, music, sexuality and fire. Lots of fire...

Parking is available at the Flynt Communications Building, located at 8484 Wilshire Blvd. – one block east of the Fine Arts Theatre. Look for the tall, oval building on the southeast corner of Wilshire and La Cienega. Proceed south down La Cienega from Wilshire and turn left onto the concrete ramp leading underneath the building. Continue around and down. There will be a sign overhead that says Monthly Parking, directing you into the parking gates. You may also enter onto this ramp from Hamilton -- the small, white signed street just east of the Flynt building. Head south on Hamilton off Wilshire and turn in at the sign that says
8484 Wilshire Visitor Parking.

										<div>Good Morning Truth Believers,

If anyone out there is still not convinced that George W. Bush and (limp) Dick Cheney should be charged for WAR CRIMES and basically pissing on the Geneva convention, then please read the following statement made this morning by former Ambassador Joe Wilson. What should clearly be seen as the worst presidential administration EVER is put in it's place by Mr. Wilson's scathing analysis. Please forward this around to friends and family and if anyone approaches you to sign an impeachment petition for Bush or Cheney, PLEASE SIGN IT IMMEDIATELY.

Thank you.

Below is the prepared opening statement of Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, IV (ret.) for his testimony today during the House Judiciary Committee's hearings on presidential clemency powers.
Statement of Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, IV (ret.)
To the House Committee on the Judiciary
July 11, 2007
Mr. Chairman, Mr. Ranking member, members of the Committee,

Thank you for the invitation to appear before you at this hearing on the possible abuse of Presidential authority in the commutation of I. Lewis Libby, convicted on four counts of lying to federal investigators, perjury and obstruction of justice. I am not a lawyer, but I have understandably followed this case closely. This matter, after all, involves the betrayal of our national security, specifically the leaking of the identity of a covert officer of the Central Intelligence Agency, my wife, Valerie Wilson, as a vicious means of political retribution.

After it became apparent in Spring of 2003 that one of the key justifications for war in the President's State of the Union address was not supported by the facts, I felt an obligation and a sense of responsibility to the American people and to our men and women in uniform to share my first-hand knowledge about the unsubstantiated allegations of uranium yellowcake sales from Niger to Iraq. Accordingly, In a New York Times article on July 6, 2003, I disclosed the deliberate deceptions surrounding the justification for the invasion, conquest, and occupation of Iraq. Eight days later Valerie's status as a CIA operative was made public in a newspaper column by Robert Novak. We now know from testimony and evidence presented in the United States vs. I. Lewis Libby that Novak's column was the end product of a process that was initiated by Vice President Cheney who directed his chief of staff, Scooter Libby to supervise it.

Never in my twenty-three years as a member of the diplomatic service of the United States did I ever imagine a betrayal of our national security at the highest levels.

Fifteen years ago this week, I was sworn in as George Herbert Walker Bush's Ambassador to two African countries - Gabon and Sao Tome and Principe. Seventeen years ago I served as his acting Ambassador to Iraq in the first Gulf War. I was the last American diplomat to confront Saddam Hussein about his invasion of Kuwait prior to Desert Storm. As acting Ambassador, my embassy was responsible for the safe evacuation of over 2,000 Americans from Kuwait and Iraq and the release of close to 150 Americans held hostage by Saddam and his thugs.

I was proud to serve my country mostly overseas, for twenty-three years, in both Republican and Democratic administrations, and to promote and defend the values enshrined in our Constitution and Bill of Rights. I was honored to be then President Bush's envoy to Iraq and to have been part of the foreign policy team that managed the international crisis created by Saddam's invasion of Kuwait. Members of that foreign policy team remain among my closest colleagues and friends.

Given my service, it has been therefore disconcerting to see my family and my targeted in the crosshairs of a character assassination campaign launched by the Vice President and carried out by his chief of staff, and by the President's chief political aide, Karl Rove, among others.

Ultimately, this concerted effort to discredit me, ruining my wife's career along the way, has had a larger objective. This matter has always been about this administration's case for war and its willingness to mislead the American people to justify it. In order to protect its original falsehoods, the Vice President and his men decided to engage in a further betrayal of our national security. Scooter Libby sought to blame the Press, yet another deception. He was willing even to allow a journalist to spend eighty-five days in jail in a most cowardly act to avoid telling the truth.

President Bush promised that if any member of the White House staff were engaged in this matter, it would be a firing offense. However, the trial of Scooter Libby has proved conclusively that Karl Rove was involved, and although he escaped indictment, he still works at the White House. We also know as a result of evidence introduced in the trial that President Bush himself selectively declassified national security material to attempt to support the false rationale for war. The President's broken promise and his own involvement in this unseemly smear campaign reveal a chief executive willing to subvert the rule of law and system of justice that has undergirded this great republic of ours for over 200 years.

Make no mistake, the President's actions last week cast a pall of suspicion over his office and Vice President Cheney. Mr. Libby was convicted of, among other crimes, obstruction of justice - a legal term used to describe a cover-up. The Justice Department's Special Counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald, has said repeatedly that Mr. Libby's blatant lying had been the equivalent of "throwing sand in the eyes of the umpire", thereby ensuring that the umpire, the system of justice, cannot ascertain the whole truth. As a result, Fitzgerald has said, "a cloud remains over the Vice President." In commuting Mr. Libby's sentence, the President has removed any incentive for Mr. Libby to cooperate with the prosecutor. The obstruction of justice is ongoing and now the President has emerged as its greatest protector. The President's explanation for his commutation that Mr. Libby's sentence was excessive turns out to be yet another falsehood because the sentence was quite normal, as Special Counsel Fitzgerald noted. The President, at the very least, owes the American people a full and honest explanation of his actions and those of other senior administration officials in this matter, including, but not limited to the Vice President.

In closing, let me address the question of the underlying crime. Mr. Libby's attorneys and his apologists have tried to downplay his conviction on the grounds that nobody was actually indicted for the leak of Valerie's status as a covert CIA officer. Libby's propaganda is an effort to distract from his crime - his obstruction of justice, his cover up. Who is he protecting?

I would like the committee members and all Americans to think about this matter in this way: If senior American officials take time from their busy schedules to meet with a foreign military attaché for the purpose of compromising the identity of a CIA covert officer, what would we call that? Although that scenario is hypothetical, the end result is no different from what happened in this case - the betrayal of our national security.</div>

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/alayha/blog/5ff82167-8afb-40b1-baf3-ab05da796a82"> <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/896/757/89675700-1678-4a0e-8cde-724c50291f73.thumb" width="65" height="58" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>Hey All,

First off, if you haven’t already, please vote this Tuesday. Though it is not a Presidential election, there is a lot at stake. Clean water, a woman’s right to choose, statewide environmental protection, opportunity to move us into alternative fuels such as biodiesel (!!!), and much more…

A few of my friends have called or emailed wanting to discuss the topics on the ballot. What I thought I would do is draft my votes and my abbreviated thoughts about the issues. So, if this is of interest to you, please read on…

If you do not want to receive communications of this nature from me, please let me know so I can make sure this is the last one you receive.

My perspectives on the various Bond Measures and Initiatives we are being asked to vote on this Tuesday are grounded in my life experience as a native Californian as well as my work with elected officials on the local, state and federal levels on permanently protecting the 600+ acres of the Ballona Wetlands ecosystem as well helping people get into biodiesel cars and off of petroleum for good. I humbly offer my opinion only as a guide for those who believe it may be of some assistance to them. I have strong opinions that I share in spite of the fact that many of you may disagree with them. When I first went through this list of choices being offered to us, there were a few I felt I may be better off not taking a position on if I want everyone to like me. After a few minutes I caught myself and realized that I am not doing this to get people to like me, so therefore taking a position on the ones I find to be the most controversial will hopefully be the way I can be of the most service to those that care to read my thoughts...

I only had time to work on the statewide measures, so if you are looking for help on local questions, other than my recommendation for Santa Monica City Council, this communication will be of no help.

All of that said, thanks for checking this out if you choose to do so.

Take care,

Tom F.

As far as people running for elected office, I have three people I know personally and feel I can recommend without any hesitation:

Santa Monica City Council: Kevin Mckeown
Kevin has tirelessly supported the work to protect the Ballona Wetlands ecosystem and was instrumental in bringing the City of Santa Monica onto the lawsuit that is currently challenging the expansion of the Playa Vista development. He also votes right on the issues that are important to all of us on the Westside, such as big developments, water quality, etc.

Secretary of State: Debra Bowen
I consider Debra to be on my short list of “real people” in Sacramento. She has been a champion of consumer and privacy issues and helped us protect part of the Ballona Wetlands. I cannot think of a better person to make sure that we have fair elections in this state.

Governor: Phil Angelides
Though Phil is not as well known as Arnold he has two very important attributes that really set him apart from his competitor and make him worthy of our vote.
1) He is extremely intelligent and has the ability to fully process and grasp the many complex issues we are facing in this state.
2) He is willing to fight for what is important even when powerful special interests won’t like it. For example he is proposing that we raise the taxes on the rich.

Prop 84 Water Quality, Safety, and Supply

Vote YES!
I read this one thoroughly and it is well thought out and deserves our support if we like to swim in, and drink clean water. In addition, it is supported by three great environmental groups that fight tirelessly for clean water in our lakes, rivers, streams and ocean, Surfrider Foundation, Santa Monica Baykeeper, and Heal the Bay. These people do work on water quality policy and enforcement day in and day out. I personally know the leadership of these groups to have the utmost integrity. Need I say more?

Prop 86 Tax on Cigarettes

Vote YES!
The bottom line on this one is that if cigarettes are more expensive, young people will smoke less of them and therefore less young people will become life long smokers. In addition, the extra revenues generated by the tax will help offset the massive health care burden all Californians, smokers and non smokers alike must shoulder due to cigarette smoking. More expensive cigarettes= less cigarettes smoked, good for our health, good for the environment, bad for the tobacco companies. Sounds real good to me…

Prop 87 Alternative Energy, Research, Production, Incentives. Tax on California Oil Producers

Vote YES!
This measure taxes the petroleum industry on every barrel of oil produced in the State of California. This industry has been making unprecedented profits. This new tax on oil companies cannot be passed on to consumers. In addition, the revenues generated by this tax will go toward implementation of various programs that collectively will work towards reducing California’s petroleum consumption by 25 percent from 2005 levels by 2017. Bottom line, Big Oil gets to pay to move us away from petroleum. This is a no brainer.

Prop 88 Education Funding, Real Property Parcel Tax

Vote YES!
Rather than borrowing money, this is a pay as we go plan. It taxes each land parcel in the state $50 a year. Any land owner that resides on the parcel, is 65 years of age or older, or a severely disabled person is exempt. The part I like the most is that the majority of the funds go to class size reduction and instructional materials, not structures.

Prop 89 Political Campaigns. Public Financing. Corporate Tax Increase. Campaign Contribution and Expenditure Limits

Vote YES!
This measure is huge. It has the potential to create more change for the greater good than everything else on the ballot combined. It increases corporate taxes so that we can level the playing field to allow viable “clean money” candidates a chance to get elected, rather than our current system that gives an unfair advantage to candidates that get their campaign money from big oil, drug giants, the insurance industry and other well healed special interest groups. I can say from first hand knowledge that a lot more good will come out of Sacramento if our candidates for elected office will not have to rely on big business to fund their campaigns. They will be free to vote for the people rather than vote to pay back their campaign contributors. A much needed and refreshing change!

Prop 1A Transportation Funding Protection:

Vote NO
Why? This severely limits the legislature's ability to temporarily utilize transportation funds for other purposes when they recognize extenuating circumstances that justify such actions; such as providing emergency health care for the poor, shelter and services for battered women, etc. Passing laws that force our elected officials to utilize funds for a specific purpose rather than allowing them the discretion to make choices that are in everyone's best interest when necessary, is bad policy. If we want to limit their discretion to this extent, then why have a legislature in the first place?

Prop 1B Highway Safety, Traffic Reduction, Air Quality and Port Security Bond Act:

Vote NO
Why? Borrowing money, rather than adequately taxing the entities that use our highways in the first place (pay as we go), does not make sense. More importantly, nearly all of the funding is earmarked for expansion of our highway system and by extension, subsidizing automobile dependent sprawl housing developments. More highways does not equate to less traffic and better air quality (in other words the name of this Bond Measure is an oxymoron). Studies have shown that Jane Average Citizen will drive up to a certain threshold of minutes to and from work daily. If we add more lanes to existing freeways, along with building new ones, those in the given areas where the expansions are done will experience an initial noticeable reduction in traffic congestion and will be able to spend less time on the road and more time with their families. Unfortunately, this "traffic relief" will be short lived (somewhere around three to five years) since the new capacity will soon be filled by people that work in our urban centers but want a home they can afford so they buy out a little further since they are measuring their commute in minutes, not miles. Before long the "additional capacity" is also gridlocked and more lanes are added and the expansion/ more sprawl/ beyond capacity cycle, repeats itself. We should support transportation improvements that move us away from fossil fuel dependent highways, not builds more of them.

Prop 1C Housing and Emergency Shelter Trust Fund Act of 2006:

Vote NO
Why? Our current statewide infrastructure problems are a direct result of little or no statewide land use planning. We should not support any taxpayer subsidizing of development in this state without a statewide land use plan that includes urban growth boundaries that preserve our farmland (food supply) and wild spaces as well as provides for adequate ecologically sustainable transit. It has been done in Oregon and it works. It is time we demand the same here. This is another inadequate "borrow our way out of it short term band-aid" approach to solving a problem that’s rooted in our inequitable tax structure. Our elected officials need to find their backbones and raise the taxes on large corporations that are making huge profits and avoiding shouldering their fair share of the burden of providing for those that are disadvantaged.

Prop 1D Kindergarten-University Public Education Facilities Act of 2006:

Vote NO
Why? Due to numerous school bond measures approved by voters in the recent past, there are a considerable number of school construction and modernization projects already funded and in the pipeline. Students learn from teachers not structures. At this point, if we are going to borrow more money for schools it should be spent on educational materials and/or improving teacher-student ratios, not more buildings.

Prop 1E Disaster Preparedness and Flood Prevention Bond Act of 2006:

Vote NO
Why? Though the recent flooding along the Gulf Coast could lead us to believe that we must invest in fortifying our statewide water flow mechanisms, sound scientific study reveals the fact that water supply and watershed management should be approached in a more holistic manner, i.e. working with nature rather than against her. We should only support water flow management funding and policy that includes resources that are earmarked for acquisition and removal of homes and other structures that are at extreme risk due to siting in known flood plains where the question is not whether they will get flooded, but when they will get flooded. In addition there should be significant funding earmarked for moving us away from failure prone levies and bring us into the 21st century regarding watershed management. For example we could utilize flood control wetlands and other more advanced and fiscally sensible water management methodology such as meandering streams and rivers, rather than straight channels that actually exacerbate flooding in 100 year events.

Prop 83 Sex Offenders, Sexually Violent Predators. Punishment, Residence Restrictions, and Monitoring, Initiative Statute:

Vote NO
Why? Hypothetically, my soon to be 19 year old son could be subjected to a lifetime of Global Positioning System monitoring if he were convicted of having sexual contact with his 17 year old girlfriend! Though sexual predators are a really scary awful problem in our society, this beyond draconian initiative is not the solution. By prohibiting sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park, the initiative would force many offenders into rural areas with smaller police forces. A high concentration of sex offenders in rural neighborhoods will not serve public safety. A similar measure was passed in the state of Iowa in 2001. A summary of the Iowa prosecutors' findings on the effectiveness of the law shows the following:
~ Residency restrictions cause sex registrants to disappear from the registration system, harming the interests of public safety
~ Enforcing the residency restrictions is expensive and ineffective.
~ The law also caused unwarranted disruption to the innocent families of ex-offenders
~ Residency restrictions do not reduce sex offences against children or improve children's safety
~ Residency restrictions will not be effective against 80 to 90% of sex crimes against children, because those crimes are committed by a relative or acquaintance of the child.

Prop 85 Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before Termination of Minors Pregnancy

Vote NO

At first I was going to skip this one since I suspect everyone feels fairly strong one way or another about this topic. That said, I made a commitment to myself when I started doing this that I would take a position on each and every one. In most cases, parental involvement in a young woman’s right to choose is probably a good thing. But, what if you happen to be a young woman who has parent(s) that are really screwed up people and would rather not have them involved for any number of reasons. This fact alone is enough for me to say no and to stand in solidarity with the kids that had the bad luck of being conceived by parents that just would not offer anything good in this situation.

Prop 90 Government Acquisition, Regulation of Private Property.

Vote NO
This measure takes the idea of democracy and electing people to make decisions that are best for everyone in the state and turns it on its head. It is being put forward by a small group of Private Property Rights extremists that believe landowners should be able to do whatever they want with their land regardless of the potential impacts on the environment and the communities that are around the parcel in question. They are pushing measures similar to this one in multiple states throughout the nation. If this measure passes, any land owner in the state would be able to file a claim against the government for compensation for loss of the right to utilize their property to the fullest extent possible due to passage of any law that restricts that right. For example, if the State Coastal Commission creates a new rule that limits the height of hotels that are built along the coast, every property owner that has a parcel of land along the coast of California that could potentially be utilized for a hotel could file a claim for the difference between the value of their property before the new restriction and the value of their property after the new rule was enacted. A similar measure was recently passed in Oregon and the state is facing hundreds of millions of dollars in claims already. In addition to the massive fiscal impacts this measure would cause for the state if passed, it would also severely impair the ability of our elected officials to pass laws that protect our health, the environment, and our quality of life. This is due to the fact that every time the government proposed regulations that control land use, they would have to consider the enormous fiscal impacts of claims from private property owners that could file claims that the value of their property has been diminished by the new regulation. This could result in many proposed regulations that benefit everyone in the state being scrapped for the simple reason that in the final analysis, compensation to various land owners for “loss of development potential” would make the regulation fiscally untenable.

If you have "been meaning to visit the Farm", there
is nothing more to wait for. They need you right
now! This is a peaceful protest, to demonstrate to
the media that there is community support for this urban oasis.

The immediate area around the Farm has been blocked off by the authorities limiting access to the site. Protesters still inside the Farm are being physically removed and arrested.

Please forward to your friends and mailing lists.

The Annenberg Foundation has stepped in with the additional money needed to supplement the many other donations to meet Ralph Horowitz' (the owner of this land) asking price for the 14 acres. But Ralph Horowitz has not yet accepted the offer.

This offer will incorporate a community center, soccer fields and jobs programs, while preserving most of the family farms (there is another location for any displaced farmers). We need everyone to call and email Councilmember Jan Perry now and request that she help save this community center and encourage Ralph Horowitz to accept the offer. Please let Jim know if you called and any response. Also send a copy of your email to
Jim@EarthDayLA.org

Subject: Please Save the South Central Farm and Community Center

Dear Councilmember Jan Perry,

We are pleased that the Annenberg Foundation has joined the community to provide the funds needed to meet Ralph Horowitz' asking price for the 14 acres in South Central LA. This offer will incorporate the community center, soccer fields and jobs programs, while preserving some of the family farms.

These 14 acres could become a model for the greening of LA. Just like the Watts Towers, this center could attract people from all over the world to see how LA can preserve its heart and soul.

This could be a win-win for all of Los Angeles. We need you to encourage Ralph Horowitz to accept the community's offer.

(your name and address)

PLEASE DO PARTICIPATE/ Support the farm:

If you haven’t seen it yet, it is a beautiful site, and has a place in my heart, the people are so nice there- they just want o live! People have built their life around this abandoned plot, that the City said they could use, and now has become an interesting fight to get back and shows us where the politics really are. This IS the time to do something, please pass this along.

<div>I know I could do more, and would like to do something that will actually make a difference. It seems like the money raised to buy this peice of property could go to buy another property dedicated to the same use.</div>
