Truth

"A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Quick Little Burner Bio:
I'm mostly a quiet and introspective guy, preferring to stand back and watch the action until I have something that I can contribute, but watch out when I get playful as I have quite an inventive mind and a mischievous spirit. With a love of the process of creating I'm a jack-of-many-trades and many arts, willing to put my creative efforts into nearly any field. And as you can tell from my address above, I'm a full fledged Geek (see below for my geek code). I've been married for 7 years to a woman who hates the heat, and she goes to visit friends while I go and play in the dust at Burning Man. I also have a 5 year old son (not by my wife (don't make assumptions, ask me if you want an explanation)) who has joined me out at the burn with his mother. One last thing to bring out of the closet, I also perform Tarot card readings, so if you catch me with my cards you just might get me to do a reading for you.

We rarely get a chance to see another country's editorial about the USA.

Read this excerpt from a Romanian News paper. The article was written by Mr. Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title 'C'ntarea Americii (meaning 'Ode To America') in the Romanian newspaper Evenimentulzilei 'The Daily Event' or 'News of the Day'

~An Ode to America~

Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs.

Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart. Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the Army, or the Secret Service that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody rushed to empty their bank accounts. Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about. Instead the Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand.

After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a government official or the president was passing. On every occasion, they started singing:'God BlessAmerica!'

I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being? Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put into a collection aimed at rewarding not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way? Their land? Their history? Their economic Power? Money? I tried for hours to find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding commonplace, I thought things over, I reached but only one conclusion... Only freedom can work such miracles.

Cornel Nistorescu

It took a person on the outside - looking in - to see what we take for granted ! GOD BLESS AMERICA ! !

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a pretty ringing endorsement for the character of our country.

And in the freethinking spirit of our founding fathers I double checked this on www.snopes.com to be sure that it wasn't just another urban myth, and I was quite pleased to find that it had been verified as true ( www.snopes.com/rumors/romania.asp ).

Long live a country where our differences are celebrated, where we can argue our opinions till we're blue in the face, and where we come together in a united front when truly threatened, just like a good family should.

BM Camping locations (in Phoenix Projekt) Who's camping where at the burn?

I'm looking to camp out in the open camping zones but I'd like to try and be as central to the rest of the group as I can (cuts down on unneeded travel), So I'm wonderin' where everyone's camping at this year?

Re: Bad Day Book (in SD Burners) I like the idea but I think that an emergency information card that the person carries with them should also be a practical part of the solution (if not the whole solution), as it could save a significant amount of response time.

The rest stops on my digital journeys

The theatrical trailer for Star Wars: Clone Wars has leaked online, thanks to a Polish distributor (hence the subtitles and slightly dim picture). And it turns out the Clone Wars that took place between the second and third Star Wars prequels had an added complication we've never known about, involving our old friend Jabba the Hutt. I've warmed to the animation style of this series, ever since I found out it was based on Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds puppet show. Clone Wars hits theaters this August, and then heads to the Cartoon Network in the fall. [Film School Rejects]

rehash.pngWeb site Rehash is like an online swap meet for clothes and accessories. According to the site, the average American throws away around 68 lbs. of clothes per year—Rehash is a place to recycle those clothes and get something in return. Once you've joined, you can list anything you want to exchange, along with items you're looking for. Rehash trades can happen either in person or through shipping, though the site doesn't have anything in place to help you with shipping. Obviously Goodwill is always there to take your clothes donations so that you aren't trashing your unused clothes every year, but if you're looking to get something in return, Rehash may be a good place to do it. Thanks Antonella!
