"A California woman decided to try to exterminate the mice in her home- with a gun. She ended up shooting herself and another woman in the leg. They both sustained minor injuries and were released from a hospital after being treated. The mice escaped unharmed"

<div>I've been bugged by two thoughts for much of the day and I've finally decided to free myself from the bondage of them:

1) I'm wanting to partake in this weekend's Bay to breakers but sadly I do not have in my possession a credit card so I can't register online :-(

2) As a loyal viewer of the Food Network I absolutely CAN NOT stand Bobby Flay any longer. He has like a billion shows on that channel, he's always the one who gets challenged on this other show Iron Chef America, he's gonna be hosting TWO OTHER new shows, and he'll be on a ton of talk shows later promoting his new book.

FREE US FROM OUR MISERY FOOD NETWORK!!

GET BOBBY FLAY OUT OF OUR LIVES!!!!!

Wow...*pant*...that was cathartic...

<div>I don't know what it is, as someone who' into age-play, it doesn't take much for me to go into little space and be reduced to baby talk. HOWEVER, it seems to really annoy me when people who are otherwise kinda mature sounding and mature in behavior are reduced to that kinda speak when in front of babies and cute animals and that confuses me. I've had NUMEROUS moments when I've been reduced to baby talk , and I've been in many age play parties or gatherings where other "adults" go into little space and I obviously don't have a problem with that, but seeing adults in front of pets or kids and them being reduced to baby talk? That pisses me off.

I had that happen in front of me at work just now, so I just had to get it off my chest.

A Little on the Olympics

<div>As I sit here in front of the computer doing what I'm doing and listening to the news on radio, I find myself in a rather reflective mood. After much talk and controversy, the day has come. Today's the day the Olympic torch passes through San Francisco.

In the days leading up to this, there've been countless news reports talking about the upcoming protests and the varying opinions people have about the torch passing through the city and it's sort of made me think quite a bit...about how I feel about the actions of the government of my country of origin, about the separation of sports and politics, and even about what it means to be patriotic. In the end, I decided I wanted to do something today about this but I don't know what, so I thought I'd start by writing about it.

I have to say that right now I'm kinda torn. As a Chinese person born in Hong Kong, I think it's pretty cool that a part of my country will be hosting the Olympics. it's been in parts of the US a handful, it's been in Europe, other parts of Asia, but this is the first time China's getting it so a part of me feels that this will be pretty amazing. However, there's also this part of me that's not really angry...but I guess rather disapproving of this.

Most of the opinions against Beijing hosting the upcoming Olympics are centered around the Chinese government's poor reputation when it comes to human rights issues and the truth is a lot of the people who have those opinions are right. China's record when it comes to protecting their people's human rights has not been pretty and thinking about this, the first incident that comes to mind is the Tienanmen Square Massacre in 1989 (also known as the June 4 Incident) where between 200 and 3000 Chinese died speaking out against their government's policies. To this day many of the country top officials have refused to acknowledge the enormity of the incident and it's death toll.

In the years since that infamous day, there've been numerous reports on the Chinese government's other human rights violations (another example of such violations that comes to mind is their ongoing mistreatment of Tibet and their leader the Dalai Lama). The Chinese government has repeatedly said that the countries speaking up against these actions are meddling with China's internal affairs and they're right. These countries are meddling with China's affairs, but when these violations and their casualties become as public as they have been, these affairs are no longer internal. People aren't physically going in and shooting people in the name of getting rid of human rights violators, they're just saying it's not right and just like how I'd speak up if I saw a person non-counsentually hit their spouse in public, I'd speak out against these violations.

Sports and political demonstrations have long been connected...from the 1968 Olympics where John Carlos and Tommie Smith raised their fists in protest of US civil rights issues to Cathy Freeman running with both the Aboriginal and Australian after her gold medal win in 2000, people have long used sports as a ways to their political means . Professional sports is filled with examples of where politics and sports inter-connect. It took well over 100 years for Major League baseball to have it's first black player. Throughout the steroid scandal that has so dominated professional baseball, the overwhelming majority of the players busted so far have been minor leaguers or big league role players and you can't say that doesn't have anything to do with politics.

As a sports fan, as a Chinese person, and as a political activist, I'm divided today. As a sports fan I'm excited about watching the various competitions that will take place during the Olympics. As a Chinese person I'm happy to see the Olympics take place in my country of origin, but as a political activist, I'm disappointed that the Chinese government appears to have once again gotten little but a slap on the wrist for it's past political transgressions.

Sports and politics are in a lot of ways very much the same. Those who have more resources and who are better able to wield their influence seem to get their way more often and that's just not right. That's the real reason why I'm in protest today. </div>

I'm HOME!!

<div>After five days vacationing in the east coast I finally got home yesterday; and let me tell you, as fun as the trip actually was, I realized this time that indeed I'm not that big a fan of vacationing with my folks- not for almost a week anyway.

I mean, maybe it was the group tour environment, maybe it was the EARLY morning-call times, maybe it was that we basically spent but a minute and a half in each location, or maybe it was 'cause I went to NO MEETINGS...at a certain point it just started getting really stressful. The one thing about having spent the amount of time I have in the youth services and counseling fields is that I kinda learned some about what are affective ways to handle stress and what aren't; what are good ways of communicating and what aren't...and unfortunately, I've realized (well, more like I've confirmed) that my family (I, myself included) really doesn't know how to communicate with one another in a stress free way.

I mean there are calm, stress free ways to say that there are 20 minutes left before we've to get back on the bus, or there are ways that eventually result in people yelling at one another. We somehow have the uncanny ability to regularly pick the latter. When we suspect but aren't sure that someone might've said something in a mean way, instead of calmly inquiring as to what the other person meant to say, we like to get bitter, defensive, and to start bickering. It just just got pretty exhausting and pretty old pretty fast.

Anyway...about the actual trip; I have to admit that having lived in the US for almost 12 years there are still a good chunk of the country I'd heard of but never been to so it was really cool to get to actually go to some of these places. We went to NYC, Philly, DC, New Jersey, Boston, and the Niagra Falls which I choose to list separately as it's own place altogether. We got to go to all the typical attractions and do all the typical touristy things which though occasionally frustrating, was actually pretty funny. I even went as far as to buy a mini replica of the Statue of Liberty for my friend Liam. My two big complaints are that a) we kinda got too ambitious and didn't really get to spend enough time in each location and b) I don't do well with strangers (but I think a lot of you already know that). My one saving grace is that I brought books to read which really came in handy on those 4-6 hour journeys on the bus (YAY! for preparedness!!).

I guess I really shouldn't complain. There are people I know who not only have never been out of the country, they've never been out of the state and fortunately, I'm not one of those people. I've had the opportunity to go to different countries and cities and to experience cultures different from mine and that's pretty awesome. I will say that (not to self) from now on, vacations should be taken without the accompaniment of a large group of strangers, and that I REALLY should seek out meetings the next time I take a trip with family.

No worries...I'm back home now. Back to work, parties, places I know, and people I like; and as the old saying goes, you don't know what you're missing until you don't have it and I really learned that one this past week.</div>

Recent addition:

A friend and I were talking about this when I first heard about this. He reminded me that basically the supervisors were just people asked to do a lot more work but basically paid just a LITTLE more if at at all. If that's the case, it should be up to Starbucks (supposedly one of the best places to work in the country) to compensate their supervisors, not the baristas.</div>

Fifth Anniversary (or SHUT THE FUCK UP GEORGE W. BUSH!!!)

<div>Today is the fifth anniversary of the war in Iraq (aka: Gulf War II)

Almost 4000 US troops have died.

Over 21,000 soldiers have attempted suicide

Over 50,000 Iraqis have died

We were supposed to be in there to find weapons of mass destruction that Iraq allegedly had. We never found any.

We were supposed to be in there to get rid of Saddam Hussein and his regime. He's dead. We decided to video his execution. A new regime is in, and it's worse than it was.

We were suppose to stabilize and rebuild Iraq and keep the peace. People are dying 'cause of terrorist attacks, suicide bombings and the war every day.

WHY THE FUCK ARE WE STILL IN THERE??

Oil?
Money?
Political Domination?
Ego?
Stupidity?

I was skeptical five years ago and I'm pissed today.

How many more people have to die for this senseless stupidity before "our" elected officials get some spine and really try to stop this? </div>
