This was at the end of the show put on by Gypsy Caravan in Portland. We had to leave right after Karim's set because we had to drive down to Suhaila's in Albany, CA the next day. It was great to meet Karim and see him perform and great to see the Caravan girls again. Ex-Circus girl, Autumn, was there to support along with ex-Ashland bellydancer, Jennifer. Yay pretty dancing ladies!!

I'll post pics when I get some from the other girls.

I really think the best way to tell someone about it, is that I *can't tell them about it*. It's like having a baby and being a parent - you really can't know what it's like until you do it. I do know that I feel f*ing fantastic. I pushed myself harder than I ever have to be better at something that I truly love. I also feel that I will now be a small part of the process of bringing more respect to this artform.

Another wonderful factor was how all women in the room were equal. We all worked our asses off, professional and not, tall/short, old/young, it didn't matter. I soaked through all my clothes and it felt awesome!!

Woohoo!!

This was my first time dancing to live music and I couldn't have asked for better company and encouragement. I was pretty nervous - I misread Michael's drumming and wanted more time with the Oud, but overall I really enjoyed it. I hope to do it again next time they're in town.

ps: this was the best pic of the three other girls... you all know that's not what I look like all the time, right? :P

So Sebastian had his second performance in May 2008 at Gene Leyden's 23rd Annual Spring Dance Recital. I had taken him to Gene's classes since around Oct 07. When I found out about the show I was all for it (even though he was one of two boys). The morning of the show we had rehearsal at the Armory. Sebastian took well to the stage so I had no worries for the real thing that night. He did really well and actually seemed to enjoy being on stage! *Proud Mama*

Or "Goin' tribal" as a friend put it - after only seeing me dance in tight things that sparkle..

As some of you know, I am now a member of Circus Tribal. It was official in January and my first show with them was in April. It's been a big learning experience as I am still pretty new to Suhaila technique and Emily's choreographies, but I am loving it. I am also learning to make costumes from scratch for the first time. I'm putting aside most of my soloist endeavors for now, as catching up is a lot of work (although I'm still doing parties and such). I'm sure I'll go back and forth between styles and eventually learn to use them all both as fusion and individually. The beauty of dancing with Emily is that it isn't ONE THING - it's so many things, both physical and artistic, put together in beautiful and fun ways.
