Alien Jon would have to be the most down to earth alien that I've ever met, and I've met a few. Also, he will teach you new skills, but also new ways to think about what you are doing so that it makes sense as a fluid motion rather than a "trick." No matter what level you begin at, he explains and demonstrates in a way that is clear, concise and infinitely patient. He also gives great bear hugs and will increase your creativity and sense of fun just by being within a 5 mile radius.

Of all the Aliens that never anally probed me, John is by far the most talented.
One of the best movement artists I know, creative, insightful, and funny as hell. Just mention the word "Poi" around him, and he'll show you 3 things that'll blow your mind. Never miss a chance to learn from this guy, he's one of the few teachers who can actually explain complex movements in a way that's down to earth, and understandable by pretty much anyone. Jon truly is an alien, able to manipulate objects, and understand the objects he is manipulating, with amazing ease. If I could do half of the things he does with poi, I would be a happy little Deba, but as it is, I try to make certain I glean one of two new things from him whenever opportunity and ability afford.

Alien Jon is given such a name because of his *in my opinion* advanced train of thought. Allowing doors to unlock and take his crafts further and further. Wether it be Sphereplay/Contactjuggling with body rolls and multisphere or be it Poi where his understanding of planes and geometry allow him to create awe inspiring patterns. I personally havent seen much of Jon's skill with Devil Sticks but from what i have seen he shows a tremendous understanding of it. Also Jon is just a really cool guy who is pretty much compatible with most of the population and he does funny things :P

I've been spinning things since childhood, starting with myself, and then with tennis balls in socks, or sticks found in the woods of Maine. Starting with my first pair of devil stix in 1995, I then consciously entered the world of object manipulation as a hobby. In 1999, I began spinning glowing objects on strings or in socks at "all night dance parties". After meeting other spinners, I learned that glowstringing is also known as poi, an art named by the Maori people of New Zealand. This gave rise to the discovery of fire spinning. Thus my dedication to the art of contemporary poi began.
From devilstix and poi other object manipulation quickly followed: Sphereplay, staff, diabolo, astrojax to name a few. These talents have been melded with a love of music and dance, including liquid, illusional, and funk styles. I love to play and live for the spark of innovation and creativity, while further honing my skills through diligent practice.

Nick Woolsey is having 2 week-long poi retreats around the 4th to the 17th of January. This is going on in Montezuma, Costa Rica. I believe it is at la Escuela del Sol. www.laescueladelsol.com It coincides with Reid DeFever's Drum Tour www.drumtour.com I'll be there. There are rumors that I will be teaching there! I'll let you know soon if the rumors are true =) 
So it looks like I'm going to BM 08 after all! Hurray Pyronauts! It also looks like the cheapest plane tickets from Tampa FL are to SFO, so is there any one in the Bay area who wants to house an Alien, who will be arriving sometime around the 19-22nd of August?
