Tribal-Style Bellydance
Green St Studios, Cambridge MA
(parking is free on Sundays!)

Sundays 8:30-9:30pm

This class will be offered on a drop-in basis: $15/person/class. (come check it out!)

This class is open to students who are familiar with bellydance and would like to know more about tribal-style, students who have practiced tribal-style on their own and would like more formal guidance, or for students who are new to bellydance but come with prior dance instruction and who are fast learners. We will cover proper posture and muscle technique, cueing/following, transitions, improvisation, and tribal-style vocabulary and combinations.

What is Tribal-Style?
Tribal-style bellydance is an amalgamation of several cultures’ indigenous dances. It draws from various dances, mostly from along the Romany road—where millions of dancers and gypsies have traveled over thousands of years—from India, through the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Northern Africa to the Southern coast of Spain. Tribal-style is mostly an improvisational dance form, organized around a large vocabulary of cued moves. Isolations of the hips and chest make the dance very earthy, exciting to execute, as well as beautiful to watch!

Alyssum is a go-getter. She follows through with her dreams, ideas, passions. She is probably the most versitle person I know. From being highly academic, to incredibly creative and artistic. She is the only person in the world who can make me laugh till I cry, intentionally. If there were more people in the world like her I'm sure there would be no more suffering!

what a great dance teacher, she brings humour and light heartedness into her teaching, helping her students feel comfortable and relaxed in taking risks. I've become a much better dancer since studing with Alyssum, I know what muscles are being engaged, and what I personally need to improve my style.
"Shake it Alyssum" you have so much to share!

Now that Alyssum, why, she's one of the finest people I know. I say! What a dancer, and she can twist herself into such a knot I heard that ol' salty sailor on the pretzel bag cry himself to sleep with jealousy! She's freaky and wild and if you love her as much as her kitties love her, you will bring her a sandwich.
oh and by the way... she's a dance teacher, I suggest you take her classes. They're fahkin MINT!

Before the appeal today, I had a quiet personal ceremony in the woods on campus. I thanked the place for all the knowledge that I'd gained there over the past 4 years, and I set my intention --to do the very best for the world in the most effective manner. I opened myself to the fresh start that was coming soon. I was excited for the new beginning either way: the opportunity to do well in school, live with Ben up here, and become an awesome vet with an ecological conscience; or the opportunit... read more

I have been planning on appealing to the school to allow me to repeat 3rd year and continue my vet education. I've been planning to do that on a very pragmatic level (makes sense, I already have so much time and $ invested, I'd probably regret not appealing). But I was sort of expecting to either let them make the decision (You're out anyway), or to make the ultimate decision myself over the summer if they allowed me to stay (should I really continue? or should I walk away?).

I had an epip... read more
