Just a note about how screwed up the legal system is. Our dear friend Briana Waters is being wrongfully accused of what the government since 911 has labeled "eco-terrorism" and is on the verge of being separated from her daughter and going to prison for something she did not do.
I was part of a benefit for her in August of 2006 to help her with her legal fees, and I just read up on the updates and am Mad. I sit here praying that after all of her struggle there will be some light and she will...

There are times within a life time when a special person comes along and loves you for who you are, sees the dreams you envision wanting to be there as they become reality, and selflessly gives absolute love to show he cares. Amar is the person in my life who is a friend on ALL levels. That's just it. He's a TRUE friend. A friend who loves you for your shortcomings as much as he loves you for being a silly fool when you're drunk. He's one that serves the intergalactic need for "The Greater Good". Through him I've met and have become kindred with those who are like him. Isn't that the kind of friend we want? To spin in circles of those who love on many levels? I've discovered a treasure through him. He and others alike make me want to be a better woman. I can't tell you how thankful and deeply blessed I feel to have him in my life. Thank you Amar for being you.

I’ve been putting off writing a testimonial for my dear friend Amar because I’ve been having a hard time expressing through words what a truly amazing human being he is. That being said, I will try my best to use all the adjectives I can to explain why he is the best friend a girl (or anyone for that matter) could ever want, not to mention the best business partner you would ever want to get involved with. He is kind, supportive, sweet, funny, goofy, smart, conscious, compassionate, hard working, giving, optimistic to the core, always there for you, rain or shine……. Here I go running out of those words already. Lets just say that he is always there to help when you need him, whether it is because you are having an unreasonable melt down and need some non-judgmental support, or if you have a ton of stuff to schlep and need an extra hand or 2 (or in his case 5 or 6 or at least he gives the impression that he has that many hands considering how much help he provides) or if you need someone to provide you with a dope live mix of the music you want to dance to, he’ll do that too. He’s also great at motivating people and the best road trip partner I know. Did I mention he can cook like a culinary pro? I could go on for another three pages but I’ll just sum it up with he is an all around awesome person. Consider yourself blessed if he is one of your friends. I don’t know what I’d do without him. You can’t help but love the guy.

What can I say about Amar that hasn't been said here already?
I've rarely encountered a soul so caring and open. Someone who gives so generously truly without a hidden agenda. What he has created in the bay area, and the entire west coast for that matter, is truly an amazing network of dancers, DJs and musicians based on mutual respect and admiration of each other's art, and through these connections we are truly creating events that are greater than the sum of their parts.
I feel blessed everyday to have a true friend like Amar in my life, one who is not afraid to make me strive for the best in myself, and inspires me so much with the way he lives his own life with passion and heart.
I love you big brutha!

Ok, so Amar was sweet enough to post 2 testimonials on my profile so I thought I would return the favor on his birthday!
Amar is one of the sweetest guys I know. He loves unconditionally and is always stepping up to help his loved ones. He has a passion for what he does and he does it well. He is riding the crest of this beautiful world music / bellydance scene & believes in what he is doing! It is reflected in the quality of talent that he attracts. When Layla and I visit him in Oakland he gives up his room for us to stay. He'd give the shirt off his back, thats who he is!
He is loved tremendously by this community I know he is! Considering how polular he is he knows how to keep his ego in check! HAR HAR! :) Layla and I are grateful to have him in our lives! He has been a catalyst for so many beautiful opportunities in our lives as of late and we love him for it! Hell, we'd love him anyway!

HYPNOMADIC is a modern urban dance floor hybrid of electronic beats and cultural elements featuring the dj/producer/musician team up of Soulsalaam and Process Rebel (aka Totemplow). HYPNOMADIC creates their own cinematic fusion of grimey hip-hop, punchy dancehall, dirty breakbeats and rugged d'n'b all teased with ragga vocals, bhangratronic, accapellas and live percussion with a touch of swirling dub effects.
BEATS ANTIQUE create a definitive union between the old and the new. Tribal Derivations is centered in Middle Eastern Bellydance, down tempo hip-hop, old school jazz, classical Indian, and North African gnawa music.
AMAR is amongst a handful of local DJs whose taste cuts a path through an abundance of musical selections and leads dancefloors into a hypnotic sway like snakes before the charmer. In this instance the muse is a masala that brews sounds from the Middle East and Balkans with rhythms of the Asian underground and electric Brazilian vibes. Whether its breaks, bhangra, house, drum & bass or downtempo the global nature of Amar's sets bridges a multi-culti span from the world to the Bay Area.
As a VJ, Amar takes the musical elements into the visual realm, mixing and layering live in sync with the DJs and musicians on stage, rounding the audio-visual experience and elevating the dancefloor to a mind-altering multi-stimulated expreience.
In addition to performing and producing Electric Vardo together with partner FREYJA, Amar is currently resident DJ at Surya Dub (4th Saturdays at Club Six) and resident VJ at Nonstop Bhangra (3rd Saturdays at Rickshaw Stop).
