about me
Helping people understand, one word at a time.
Testing, testing, one, two, three....
Me and Tribe. We were so hot for a year or two there...for a while we were doing it daily. And now we're just friends. We barely see each other.
I guess you've all found someone hotter and younger and fresher...her name is Facebook.
Is anyone listing? Is anyone logging on? It feels like a nightclub that isn't trendy anymore.
Or perhaps we have stopped being virtual friends and have moved into reality.
You tell me!

This was published today by The Huffington Post. It is by Kenny Ausubel, the head of Bioneers. Does the Empire wear no clothes? Can we save this planet? Ausubel says we have only ten years left.
I have been in deep thought for weeks, trying to find my place in this new world, to find a cause or organization that will benefit from my skills in leadership and promotion. I want to make a difference. I think we all do -- we just don't know where...

Today, president-elect Barack Obama met with his financial advisors. They include Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Vice President-elect Joe Biden, former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and Time Warner Chairman Richard Parsons, White House Chief of Staff-designate Rahm Emanual and Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
Here is a photo of Schmidt at Burning Man in 2004. It's said that Google founders Sergei and Larry (who are both avid Burners) hired Schmidt because he was the only CEO candidate wh...

What a night last night! Big victory parties all over the city -- you could hear Obama's voice vibrating out of bars and car stereos and ghetto blasters all over the city. I went to a funky victory party at an art gallery filled with neon jellyfish sculptures. It was mostly the inner circle Burning Man crowd.
When I walked into the room, the feeling of joy, hope, elation and unity was unlike anything I'd ever seen in our community. This wasn't the synthetic joy of an altered state, but t...

Visit here, for a journey into the making of Pantheogenesis Temple at Burning Man 2008. I wove this story with photos taken by my brother, Tony, and images I found on the web. This brings back a flood of memories about the struggle and exhaustion we suffered and the exquisite beauty we created, if only for a few days.
It's pretty low rez here on Tribe, so maybe you'll want to click into the link:

I just got back from a weekend at the Bioneers conference in San Rafael ( www.bioneers.org). It was uplifting in the moment, but when I left, I felt how overwhelming the task is -- and how despite the fact that people have been talking about "ecology" for 40 years and Bioneers has been meeting for 16 years, the problem continues to escalate.
Here we are, a few lone voices struggling to be heard, struggling to wake the rest of the planet up. Yes, everything is beautiful, harmonious a...

I would like to invite my friends to experience the new eco village
Avalon, 11 miles from Harbin Hotsprings in Lake County. If you'd like
to visit Avalon, you can join a "plurk" -- play and work -- and stay
there free on the weekend of 10/25-- this includes camping or a rustic little cabin and all meals,
use of the undeveloped springs, and a dance event on Sunday.) If you want to stay until
Wednesday, they are asking for an additional $20 a day to cover the cost of food.

If this article wasn't true I'd swear it was a parody. Imagine being seriously offended by a massage at Burning Man! Or the "disheveled" appearance of it's bafflingly affluent denizens? Charles Shaw, Entheon's resident rabble rouser, journalist and tirelessly hard working team leader, wrote this right on rebuttal.

Well, here it is. My veteran (8th year) Burner's packing list.
Sadly, it grows ever longer, every year. As I get older, and spend more time out there, as Burning Man gets bigger, more Manhattanized, and the dust problem intensifies, I need more stuff to be baseline comfortable and live up to the ridiculously high fashion standards. ($1000 light up custom fur coats? Whatever happened to the $4 Goodwill fur coat and the costume you stitched together out of fabric scraps?) And more expensiv...

Art Opening/Party to Celebrate the Nomination San Francisco State Teacher's College Campus to the National Register of Historic Places
(events » politics & activism)
Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 6:00 PM
Help save the gorgeous San Francisco State Teacher's College Campus building (in San Francisco's lower Haight neighborhood). Celebrate its nomination into to the National Register of Historic Places. This designation will significantly improve our chances of saving this historic treasure as a place of learning for the people -- and rescuing it from developers who want to tear part of this structure down and turn it into condos. We own this building -- it's public property. Join local neighborhood activists us for art, food and networking.

This party benefits a great cause -- CSC has been extremely influential in opening minds by providing non-judgmental, sex-positive sexuality education and support to diverse populations with classes, workshops, social gatherings, and hands-on, practical skills-building events. CSC was founded in the early 90s by the renowned sexuality teacher and author Betty Dodson and writer Carol Queen. www.carolqueen.com/pages/contents.htm. (Perhaps best known for her newspaper columns and anthologies like "Exhibitionism for the Shy.")
What: A convivial gathering to support and celebrate another year for the Center for Sex & Culture! No charge for the early evening, though feel free to bring a few nibbles or libations to share, and gifts to the Center will be very warmly and gratefully welcomed. What would a total transformation of your sexual choices mean for your life?
How would it feel to be more sensual and attractive than before?
What would the kind of intimate relationship you desire bring to you?
Everybody wants a fulfilling, intimate relationship. Yet all too often we get stuck in uninspired ruts. We make love the same old way; our dysfunctional relationship patterns get repeated time and again. We think, "Next time it will be different." It isn't, because WE haven't yet changed.
Gain the benefits of a Tantric healing in this group workshop where together, the group will move energy and utilize the principles of Kinesiology to help you liberate your sexuality, your talents and the old patterns that are holding you back.
Former students have experienced remarkable transformation in this one day workshop:
"My sensuality has changed entirely since taking Viktor's Bliss Experience workshop at OneTaste. I learned how to approach encounters from a position of choice."
"Over the past few years I have been attracted to men who seem available, but are in fact unavailable for the intimacy that i desire. Victor started off the weekend sharing with us that through the exercises presented we would have a shift in who we would be attracted to afterwards. A man that I have known for over 7 months, who I have never been interested in, is now my boyfriend and I have what I've been looking for - more intimacy with a partner then ever before."
"When Viktor told me during the Bliss Experience that my choice of partners would drastically change, and that I would begin to meet partners beyond my wildest dreams, I didn't believe him. It's been several months since the workshop, and I'm now involved in the hottest, funnest relationship I've ever had. I'm not sure how it happened, but what he said came true for me."

Get unstuck...unblock your relationships and sexuality with the Bliss Experience
(events » community)
Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 11:00 AM
A lot of people who haven't seen me in a few years say I've changed...I
look happier, more present, different. A little more than one year ago I
met a tantric yoga teacher who helped me heal and unblock childhood
traumas and old stuck patterns. Anyone who has known me longer than
that can attest that I changed dramatically though few people know the
reason. New talents emerged in me. Virtually overnight, I became a very
good dancer (I used to be a klutz with two left feet!) and a stage
performer (I used to have terrible stage fright....now I'm a performance
artist.) What happened? It's like everything that laid dormant inside
me started to get unstuck ... it started to flow.
My sexuality, my relationships and my happiness were all elevated to new
levels of openness and acceptance. I started to realize my potential,
and bring new opportunities to my life.... This is why my teacher,
Viktor, calls this work the Bliss Experience.
He will be leading a workshop this Saturday at One Taste Urban Retreat
in San Francisco. This one day might change your relationships forever.
(I don't usually say things like that unless I mean it, but in this
case, it's true.) I'll be there, too. If you want to know more about it,
drop me a line.

This trip is about community, creative expression, self-renewal, transformation ... AND FUN!
Whitewater rafting day trips with Zephyr Whitewater are completely optional.
The Kings boasts the largest watershed of any river in the Sierra Nevada range. Un-dammed and un-spoiled, this fun and exciting Class III river is among the most scenic and pristine in the West. "The evening I spent listening to the river, soaking in the beautiful crescent moon and planets in the 'v' of the canyon, was one of the most peaceful evenings of my life. And I got to experience this within an incredibly creative, fun, and safe group container. I wanted to do 'nothing' and did exactly that, shedding tons of overwhelm and overload in the process. The sense of relief stayed with me long after my return. I am so grateful for the way you organized the camp and our trip together, and happy that I joined you on this journey." ~* Genie O., Novato ~* Kings River Flowfest 2007

5Rhythms on the Trinity River ~
July 18-20, 2008

~ Gourmet Catering by Cordon Bleu Chef, Elizabeth Rojas (aka Lizzie, the Gumbo Girl)
~ Whitewater Rafting with Gail ~the RiverGuidess~ and Birch Circle Adventures
“River rafting and 5Rhythms dance – how do they go together? Perfectly! The 5Rhythms is a practice of being in the moment. Practice at being aware of your body, your needs, your environment and how to weave all this together in the present moment. This practice is based on dance, a very enjoyable way to practice life, if you ask me.
"Now picture yourself in a boat on a river (musical reference implied). You guide the raft through the FLOW of the river with the STACCATO movements of your paddle. At the same time you strive for control of the raft, you must also accept and work with the CHAOS of the swirling river. Once through a patch of choppy water you will most assuredly feel a sweet LYRICAL high ;-} And in between all these water-borne waves of experience, there will be patches of smooth sailing where we can pause for the moment and savor the experience of STILLNESS. Sounds like another great way to practice life!" ~ Shawn Swanson
"Put the psyche in motion and it will heal itself." ~ Gabrielle Roth
Cost: $365. Save $30 with minimum $100 deposit received by Thursday, June 5th.
Cost includes ...
~ 6 healthy, delicious, gourmet meals, from Elizabeth Rojas of Gumbo Girl Catering
~ Saturday Rafting with the RiverGuidess and friends (optional 2nd day at extra cost)
~ Plenty of dancing thru the weekend, led by Shawn Swanson
~ Morning yoga, led by Samantha Sweetwater
Novice to experienced rafters (and dancers!) are welcome on this fun, beautiful Class III river in the Trinity Alps ...
Non-rafters are welcome too, as there's plenty to do (or NOT do!) while others are rafting on Saturday (deduct $75 if not rafting).
For a second day of rafting, come up on Thursday night to raft on Friday (for an additional $75).
Otherwise, head out of town on Friday morning to enjoy an early arrival, relax and dance before dinner. Our pristine, secluded, spacious and wooded campsite is along the north fork of the river, miles away from any other. This site has a large flat clearing, where we'll set up a full sound system for dancing ... on Mother Earth!
Enrollment is limited to 50 participants. Register early to ensure your space.
Carpooling from the Bay Area will be arranged.

RADIOACTIVE: A Marin community benefit event for Mark Price
For nearly four years,my friend Gail has been blessed to live in a wonderfully supportive, musical household known to many as "the Whitehouse," which has hosted events that have entertained, enlightened and inspired many members of our individual and shared communities.
At this time, her dear friend and house member Mark is in need of support, as he deals with the latest challenges of a life-threatening illness. And so we're adjusting our positions in the boat, so we can continue downstream as one ...
The Marin community is appreciative for all that Mark has brought to us. Always ready to help at a moment's notice, his generosity and love have known no bounds. Many who have been supported by Mark are now showing up for him, as he prepares for the next phase of his cancer treatment, and beyond.
To continue the metaphor, we're all in this boat together ...
ALL proceeds from which will support Mark in the months to come. We would be so honored if you would attend, contribute or participate in any way you can.
Buy your raffle ticket online now at www.tinyurl.com/5kaczwOne ticket for $10. Three tickets for $25. You need not be present to win, and your chances of winning are excellent!!!
GRAND PRIZE: 6-to-8-day tour to Baja's Magdalena Bay Gray Whale nursery this winter (you choose the date) ... thanks to the generosity of our friends at Blue Waters Kayaking (a fabulous trip, we've gone for 3 consecutive winters ... even found our dancing dog Lucita there). Also bodywork, artwork, books, professional services, CDs, jewelry, and more ...
All funds received go directly to Mark. Thanks to all who are contributing to this mysterious musical lovefest, including Rob Calef of Open Secret Bookstore for use of this great space!
